Oakland, Ontario – The Great Lakes Brewery sponsored Insta-Insulation Motorsports team turned in a number of strong efforts during Friday night action at Ohsweken Speedway.

Karl Sault finished on the podium in Thunder Stock competition, earning a third-place finish in his Great Lakes Brewery/Waterous Holden No.81.

“It was fun. We caught up to the guys at the front and were racing pretty good,” Sault said after starting in 19th. “There wasn’t too much grip left. I had no problem catching them, but the bottom lane was the place to be. I tried high, but I was just spinning the tires trying to stay to the outside of them.”

Sault enters the final night of points racing on September 2 in second behind Friday winner Dave Bailey. Sault will need a little help to get the job done, but he isn’t counting himself out.

“There’s one more night and anything can happen. We’ll see next week at the end of the night where we stand,” Sault said.” We’ll just check the car over and keep doing the same routine.”

Herron Battles To Crate Sprint Car Top-Five

Brad Herron led the way in the Crate Sprint car division with a top-five finish in the second of two 15-lap features. Herron and Alex Schuts competed in double features for the second straight week as they made-up a rained out feature from August 5 in addition to their regularly scheduled event. Herron was seventh in the first feature before turning in the fifth-place finish aboard the Miska Trailer Factory/Climatizer Cellulose No.12.

“It was decent. It was good to finally put something back together that we could talk about,” commented Herron. “I thought for sure we could hang in the top-three, but under the last caution I realized something was up with the brakes.

We broke a brake line so we weren’t able to charge the corner like we should have on the bottom. I had to roll the top, and it was okay up there, but the car was better on the bottom.”

Alex Schuts drove to a pair of 12th-place finishes in the Insulthane Extreme/Middleport Mechanical No.5. Schuts isn’t necessarily satisfied with the results, but knows it’s a stepping-stone in the development process.

“The track was really good in both races,” Schuts said. “I think we’re coming down to the engine in my car being tired and a little bit of a carburetor issue. It just doesn’t seem to have any jam. We’re missing something and hopefully we have a bit of an idea what it is.”

Lofton Schuts Races Art Hill Memorial

Lofton Schuts qualified for the 42-lap Art Hill Memorial, the biggest Mini Stock race of the year at Ohsweken. The 14-year-old qualified directly to the feature with a second-place finish in his heat. A flat tire in the main event resulted in an 18th-place finish.

“I tried to go to the bottom and pass some cars. With our gearing, it doesn’t like to stay on the bottom, so I floated up the track a little too much and got a flat tire,” Lofton explained.

The Insta-Insulation Motorsports team will return to action for the final points race of the season on Friday, September 2. The team will have a two more non-points races following that on September 9 and 16. A full schedule of events is available at www.ohswekenspeedway.com.
