Kitchener, Ontario – Ryan Hunsinger drove to a pair of top-10 finishes in double features for the Crate Sprint Cars at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night. Two ninth-place finishes brings closes a roller coaster August for the Durnin Motorsports team.

“It could have been better, but it could have been a lot worse. The McGlone family and their sponsor John Costello loaned us an engine so we just went out and did the best we could,” Hunsinger said, adding he is grateful for their gesture.

Hunsinger has been the beneficiary of kind competitors before, he said. It’s another example of how good people make dirt track racing the enjoyable passion it is.

“We’re very fortunate such a good group of people would loan us an engine,” Hunsinger said. “Racers are pretty awesome in terms of helping each other out. It’s funny, you can race the heck out of each other on the track and then if something goes wrong, there are always racers that will bend over backwards to help you. That’s why I love it.”

The pair of top-10 results brought to a close a nightmare month for the Durnin Motorsports team that included two rainouts and, subsequently, two double feature nights to make-up for the washed out events. The team’s primary motor expired at the end of July and the backup motor met its end on August 19 with Hunsinger nursing the car to a sixth-place finish.

“The last month has been horrible in terms of bad luck. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong with our engine situation,” Hunsinger explained. “That’s just the way it goes. Sometimes you can do no wrong and sometimes you can’t do anything right.”

After winning the first three races this season and leading the point standings for most of the year, the team is naturally disappointed in the events over the last five weeks. However, the entire situation will provide a learning experience for the team to grow.

“We’re just going to finish up the year and dot our Is and cross our Ts and make sure we’re in a good position for next year,” Hunsinger concluded. “It’s tough but that’s just the way racing is. Sometimes stuff happens and there’s not really anything you can do about it.”

With one point race left on the schedule before two non-points events to conclude the season, including one alongside the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals on September 16, Hunsinger hopes he can help the team finish the year strong.

“Overall, we had a pretty good year. We had three wins to start the year and led the points most of the year. We just had some bad luck,” Hunsinger said. “It would be nice to go out on top with a win and finish top-five in points.”
