Brighton, Ontario – Brighton Speedway will crown five division champions on Saturday night and the Danny Reid Memorial will be centre stage. The 50-lap, $2000-to-win event for the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds will help crown the champion in that division’s biggest race of the year.

The Danny Reid Memorial is held annually in memory of the late Danny Reid who passed away during an event at Brighton Speedway in 2005. This year’s edition of the John’s Equipment Danny Reid Memorial will feature a unique format for the division’s biggest race of the year.

Drivers will line-up their eight-lap heat races based on the existing handicapping procedure. From there, the top three finishers in each heat (or top-two finishers if there are three heats) will qualify for the Costa Del Mar K5 Dash presented by CJ Media. A dash inversion will determine the starting line-up for the dash.

The finish order for the five-lap dash, in honour of Danny Reid’s car number, will determine the starting order for the 50-lap main event. The dash winner will receive a $200 bonus and a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses as well as the pole for the Danny Reid Memorial.

Andrew Hennessy is the defending Danny Reid Memorial winner and has locked up the 2016 Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified championship. So far this year, Hennessy has finished 16 of his 17 starts in the top-five and holds a 320-point lead entering the final event. The maximum number of points a driver can earn in a single night is 200.

The battle for second between 2014 Danny Reid Memorial winner Dan Ferguson and Picton’s Kraig Handley is tight with just 10 points separating the two drivers. Fourth-place is also up for grabs with Derrick Greig only 25 points ahead of Josh Hennessy for the position.

Pro Late Battle Down To Final Night

The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models have the tightest point battle of the tracks’ four weekly divisions. Phil Potts sits on top of the standings entering the final night with a 45-point advantage of Charlie Sandercock. Sandercock has won the last three titles after also winning in 2010 and Potts is looking for his first Pro Late Model track championship after winning the 2008 Pure Stock crown.

Two other drivers remain mathematically alive in the championship chase. Two-time winner Adam Turner is 170 points off the lead in third while Brandon Mowat sits 175 markers back in fourth. Those two drivers would need both Potts and Sandercock to fail to start the feature in order to win the championship. Their five-point separation means the third spot will come down to the final lap. Kyle Sopaz is fifth in the standings.

Tyler French To Be Crowned Comp 4 Champion

Tyler French holds an impressive 410-point lead over rookie Matthew Moore in the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 standings. French dominated the division in 2016 with six wins and 16 top-5s in 16 starts. He would love to go out with a lucky seventh win to cap a spectacular year.

Matthew Moore sits 110 points up on Peter Moore for second in the standings. Adam Flieler and Luke Toms complete the top-five in the standings entering the final night of points competition.

Stinger Championships Up For Grabs

The Quinte Septic Stinger divisions both have tight points battles. Just 10 points separate Cousins Brittany and Chantel Golden at the top of the Junior Stinger Standings. Willy Bulten also remains in contention 95 points off the lead.

In the Super Stinger division, multi-time champion Del MacGregor currently holds a slim 15-point advantage over Chris Lammle for the championship. Both drivers have two wins in nine races this year, but Lammle has two additional top-five results. With one race left, the championship will likely come down to whoever finishes ahead in Saturday’s feature.

The Brighton Automotive Pro Stock are off from action on Saturday, September 10 to allow drivers to compete in the third combined race for the Duel in the Dirt Pro Stock Series at Merrittville Speedway. Their championship will be decided on September 23 during the Applefest Shootout weekend.

Adult admission for the Danny Reid Memorial is $15 and $13 for Youths and Seniors. A family pass, valid for two adults and two youths, is $40. Grandstand gates open at 5:30pm on Saturday, September 10. Hot laps start at 6:00pm and racing begins at 7:00pm. Additional event information is www.brightonspeedway.ca.
