Focus Shifts To Super DIRTcar Series Event At Brockville

Picton, Ontario – Tim Kerr concluded the Fulton Speedway portion of his 2016 schedule with the Super DIRT Week ‘Win and You’re In’ event last Saturday night. Kerr attempted to earn the 41st starting spot for Sunday’s Big-Block Modified event at Oswego Speedway against 22 other drivers.

He was quick out of the box and avoided a major incident in his heat race to finish second and earn a top-nine starting spot.

“I saw them bang wheels on the front stretch. It was hard to see what really happened going into turn one, but they both kind of went up the racetrack. I got to the bottom the best I could and hoped they didn’t come down,” Kerr said of the incident.

He came out of the redraw with the fourth starting spot in the 25-lap main event on a very fast racetrack after a lengthy morning rain. The track conditions were unlike the Fulton surface most of the season, Kerr said.

“It was hammer down. We don’t typically see that kind of racetrack. We were doing some testing, so it kind of threw us for a loop,” Kerr said. “As the race went on, it was kind of getting to where we wanted it to be. We needed it to be black.”

Kerr never got the surface he wanted, but still came away with a strong sixth-place finish. It was his 15th top-10 result this season.

“Sixth is okay, but we should have been better. I made a mistake with the gearing. I figured I would run the cushion, but I was too tight to get to the cushion so I had to run the bottom, but I didn’t have the gear that I needed to be on the bottom. It was tough.”

Still, Kerr is happy to come away with a top-10 finish entering a number of high-profile year-end events over the next three weeks.

“It’s nothing to be disappointed about. I’m excited to see what the rest of the year brings from here on out,” Kerr said.

Kerr will have the opportunity to race in his home province this weekend at Brockville Ontario Speedway’s Northeast Fall Nationals when the Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds invade on Saturday. A strong run would go a long way for Kerr who will then wrap up his season at the World Finals in Charlotte, NC two weeks later.

“We’ve struggled there in the past. We’re going in there hoping to get a good qualifying lap in and get in the race to see if we can be a solid top-10,” Kerr said. “This time of year, the weather is tough. Right now its looking like it’s going to be a nice weekend. Hopefully we get a nice sunny day.”

Racing gets underway Saturday at 4:00pm. Additional event information is available at www.brockvillespeedway.com.
