Bowmanville, Ontario - Performance Tech Motorsports finished a long weekend of Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda racing with two top-five overall finishes at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Robert Alon earned a fourth-place finish Sunday in his No. 00 entry in Lites 1, with Austin Versteeg following in fifth, both matching their starting positions. Joel Janco finished in fifth place in Lites 1 Masters.

All three drivers were involved in early incidents that limited their ability to advance through the field.

"It wasn't a bad day," Team Principal Brent O'Neill said. "Robert and Austin got together on the opening lap. Austin needs as many laps as he can get for the experience. Robert's car was junk after the incident because the left front fender was knocked off of it. He was racing with a wounded duck. But it wasn't bad; it was still a good day.

"They all had decent results, and that says something about their skills. I feel bad for Joel having a rough start to the race, and then he just wasn't able to recover after that. We'll get him back on podium in Road America."

Versteeg, starting fifth, got around Alon at the start of the race, but the two made contact in Turn 3. Alon was able to regain his position from Versteeg. But with the damage, Alon didn't have the car to catch the leaders and challenge for a podium position.

"I didn't have the pace after that," Alon said. "I just had to push pretty hard. Through Turn 8 and Turn 2, the really high downforce stuff, I couldn't get through the corners. It was just an issue. I definitely think I would have had the pace for the leaders if I didn't have any issues."

Despite the early contact, Versteeg collected valuable seat time in the Prototype Lites machine and earned his fifth top-five finish of the season.

"I want to thank all of the guys for the hard work this weekend," Versteeg said. "This was definitely a rough race today. We had some contact at the start of the race, but the car was fine and we kept pushing. I made it past Rob and into fourth, but in the end he was faster than me, and I finished fifth. Thanks to Performance Tech for giving me a great car."

Janco was involved in an incident that ended his race early, a disappointing contrast from his fifth podium finish of the season in Round 7 of the championship Saturday. Janco is third in the L1 Masters Championship points standings.

Rounds 9 and 10 of the Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda championship are scheduled for Aug. 7-9 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
