Lakeville, Connecticut - Performance Tech Motorsports was powering away toward its first win of the season July 25 at Lime Rock Park when an on-track incident stopped the team in its tracks.

Midway through the two-hour, 40-minute race, Conor Daly had taken the lead of the Prototype Challenge class and overall race lead when the leader of the GT Daytona class made contact with the back left corner of his No. 38 car in Turn 7. The contact sent Daly and the Paul Miller Audi into the tire barrier, ending both team's races early.

Both drivers walked away uninjured from the high-impact incident. Neither team could repair its car quickly enough to rejoin the race.

"I was leading our class and tried to pass the Audi in the second-to-last corner," Daly said. "He allowed (Renger) van der Zande through the corner, and I was right behind him. As I got to the apex, he hit he me in the back left. Immediately the left rear suspension broke, so there was no recovery, and I headed straight into the wall.

"It's a narrow track and a difficult situation. It's really a shame for both cars. IMSA called it a racing incident; it's a questionable situation. I needed 2 more feet of room. I thought he had let me through, but that wasn't the case."

Performance Tech was in perfect working order before the race-ending incident.

James French opened the race behind the wheel for the team and finished his stint in second place. The team operated with clean precision during its only pit stop. The crew sent the No. 38 back onto the track four seconds sooner than any other PC car.

Team Principal Brent O'Neill has years of experience racing, and while his year has been filled with heartbreak, he knows his team will be just as strong at the next event, the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase on Aug. 7-9 at Road America.

"Once again, we were leading the race, everything was going great, and then something happened," O'Neill said. "It's a shame. We've had such a fast car these last few races, and the guys have all done a great job.

"Our pit stops are getting faster. James has been doing a great job in traffic overall. We've showed we can run upfront. This just stinks. Conor did a great job. He was in the lead, and after the pit stop, we really thought we had it. End of the day, that truly is racing."

Performance Tech Motorsports will race against the full TUDOR United SportsCar Championship field at Road America.
