Denver, Colorado – WC Vision announced today that is has signed a multi-year agreement with Lime Rock Park to hold Pirelli World Challenge races at the famed 'bullring of road racing' on Memorial Day weekends starting with the 2016 season. The weekends will be part of series' headliner events.
"We are excited to bring Pirelli World Challenge racing back to the Northeast and Lime Rock Park," said Scott Bove, President and CEO, WC Vision. "The Lime Rock Park area fanbase is fantastic and they have been posting on our social media channels as well as emailing us to bring the series back to the famed bullring. Skip Barber (President of Lime Rock Park) and I have been talking for a while now and we are happy to have signed a multi-year agreement to race there starting with the 2016 season."
"The 2016 Pirelli World Challenge schedule is coming together quickly and we are looking to announce it shortly after our final race of the season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca," added Bove. "We were excited to sign this agreement and I wanted to give our fans in the Northeast something to plan for in 2016."
"We're glad Pirelli World Challenge is back at Lime Rock. It's very popular with our fans. We've been getting emails and phone calls constantly since 2013, the last time World Challenge was here, asking when they would see the series again. So we couldn't be more pleased," said Skip Barber, Lime Rock Park's President.
Late last year, Barber committed more than $3 million to a wide variety of projects to rebuild, refine and renew Lime Rock's infrastructure. The goal of the so-called Road to 60 Project is to dramatically enhance the spectator experience from 2015 onward. A number of projects have already been completed and the target for completion of all Road to 60 projects is 2017, when Lime Rock Park celebrates its 60th anniversary.
"It's exciting for us to be going back to Lime Rock," said Jim Vurpillat, Cadillac's Director of Global Marketing. "Not only is it one of the classic American sports car racing tracks in the country, it also happens to be near the largest luxury market in the country in the New York area. It's perfect for our brand and it's perfect for fans and dealers."
"This is great news for the Bentley Dyson Racing Team, and not just because Lime Rock Park is our home track," said Chris Dyson, driver of the No. 16 Team Bentley Dyson Racing Bentley Continental GT3. "What's really important is that now the Pirelli World Challenge will have an event each season that addresses both the New York City and Boston markets. For Bentley, and of course for all the other manufacturers involved in the series, performing in the Northeast is a critical component of a successful motorsports program."
"Skip Barber has done an amazing job of upgrading Lime Rock Park, both the racing surface and the rest of the infrastructure," added Dyson. "It has a huge role in the history of American motorsport and now it's been fully brought up to 21st-century standards. Dyson Racing has made a lot of its own history here and beginning next season we intend to make some more."
The complete 2016 Pirelli World Challenge schedule will be announced shortly following the series' final race weekend of the 2015 season, Sept. 11-13 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
