Phillips and Kart Staff among Special Award Winners from Merrittville Speedway’s 2016 Kart Season

Thorold, Ontario - Four first time champions were among the many honorees as the Merrittville Speedway Kart Club celebrated the 2016 Lucas Oil Weekly Karting Series Season Sunday November 27th at rural Thorold’s Club Castropignano.

The first of the first time Champions was Owen Kaiser of Thorold who won his first RCM Racing Equipment Performance Manufacturing Junior 1 Point Championship with 6 wins resulting in 896 points.

Second generation racer Donny Lampman of Caistor Centre took home his first title in the Ed McPherson Construction Junior 2 Division. The son of Saturday Night Hoosier Stock Veteran Jim Lampman won 8 features totaling 920 points.

Former Junior 1 and Junior 2 Champion Dalton Slack of Welland added the Superior PetroFuels Performance Manufacturing Junior Restricted Title to his impressive career stats with 11 wins leading to 932 points.

An incredible 14 win season led Niagara Falls’ driver Travis Majuery to his first championship in the Wilder Racing Engines Performance Manufacturing Senior Animal Division earning an even 900 points.

Merrittville Speedway’s youngest group of karters – the Vansickle Pet Valu Novice 1 and Tim Phillips Garage KC Auto Parts Novice 2 Divisions received Competition Awards, as they do not run for points. Nigel Pendykoski, Jacob Mamo, Gavin Lavallee, Carley Brakespeare, Mason Richau, Scarlett Gaboury, Christopher Crowe, William Younger, Madelyn Goulding, Hana Rothwell, Hayden Klager, Amber White, Jackson Maytum, Cohen Corbett and Trevor Evans were all presented Competition Awards.

Merrittville Speedway’s Kart Club Member Drivers shared in the more than $10,000 in cash point fund and prize awards.

All of Merrittville Speedway’s 2016 Member Drivers in attendance were eligible to win an Invertor Generator donated by Briggs & Stratton and the winner of the $ 800 prize was Junior Restricted Competitor Randy Giroux of Fort Erie whose 2017 plans include moving to the Rev’s Full Throttle Powersports Modified Lite Division Saturday Nights.

The Member Driver Draws also included prizes from Performance Manufacturing, Slack Karts, RCM Racing Equipment and Burris Tire with Scarlett Gaboury, (combined Novice 1 and Novice 2), Aiden Lavallee, (Junior 1), Donny Lampman, (Junior 2), Austyn Werstroh, (Junior Restricted) and Nathan Boisvert, (Senior Animal) all winning Body Kits.

A number of Specialty Awards were handed out and the winners are listed as follows.

Most Improved Driver Awards: Scarlett Gaboury ( Vansickle Pet Valu Performance Manufacturing Novice 1), Amber White, (Tim Phillips Garage St. Catharines Discount Auto Parts Novice 2) Aiden Lavallee, (RCM Racing Equipment Performance Manufacturing Junior 1), Aiden Speck, (Ed MacPherson Construction Performance Manufacturing Junior 2) and Noah Mamo, (Superior PetroFuels Performance Manufacturing Junior Restricted).

RCM Racing Equipment Sportsmanship Awards: William Younger, (Vansickle Pet Valu Performance Manufacturing Novice 1), Madelyn Goulding, (Tim Phillips Garage St. Catharines Discount Auto Parts Novice 2), Owen Kaiser (RCM Racing Equipment Performance Manufacturing Junior 1), Donny Lampman, (Ed MacPherson Construction Performance Manufacturing Junior 2), Kyle Phillips, (Superior PetroFuels Performance Manufacturing Junior Restricted) and Dylan Culp (Wilder Racing Engines Performance Manufacturing Senior Animal).

Tim Phillips was presented the Crew Chief of the Year Award for his efforts behind his son Kyle’s second season in the Junior Restricted Division.

Race Director Jeff Riley presented his annual award to his entire team of officials – Joey Mastroianni, Chris Watson, Rob Watson, Jeff Hughes, Terry Beckett and Aex Riley who are all former Kart Racers and/or Kart Dads who continue to support Tuesday Night Racing.
