On Canadian Tire Series Pole For Sunday’s Ecko Unlimited 100

Mirabel, Quebec – Alex Tagliani turned in one of the most dominant performances in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 history last time out, and he’s keeping the momentum going.

Tagliani, who hails from nearby Lachenaie, Quebec, posted a fast lap of 96.342 seconds (78.956 mph) Saturday at Circuit ICAR to capture his sixth career Canadian Tire Series pole.

It’s Tagliani’s second pole in three visits to the 2.113-mile airport course. He was the inaugural event’s polesitter in 2011.

In the Canadian Tire Series’ most recent race on June 20, Tagliani became the first driver in series history to have the field lapped at the finish when he won on the .333-mile oval at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, Ontario.

The Circuit ICAR winner in each of the previous three years, Andrew Ranger qualified on the outside pole for the Ecko Unlimited 100. The Roxton Pond, Quebec, native’s fastest lap Saturday was 96.372 seconds (78.932 mph). On Sunday he will look to extend his own series record for consecutive wins at a track.

Elie Arseneau qualified third-fastest at 96.431 (78.883) followed by rookie Kevin Lacroix at 96.582 (78.760) and Gary Klutt at 96.782 (78.597).

Defending Canadian Tire Series titlist L.P. Dumoulin, Scott Steckly, Marc-Antoine Camirand, Alex Labbe and Kerry Micks rounded out the top 10 qualifiers.

Season points leader Jason Hathaway qualified 19th out of the 23-car field at 99.543 (76.417).

Sunday's Ecko Unlimited 100 is scheduled to take the green flag at 2:45 p.m. ET. The race telecast will premiere on TSN on Saturday, July 11 at 1 p.m., and on RDS2 on Saturday, July 25 at 2 p.m.
