Treyten Lapcevich took the win in the opener with a last lap pass on Alex Guenette.

Innisfil, Ontario – Race one of the 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s season was dominated by one driver – Treyten Lapcevich.

But his victory wasn’t without a challenge.

After topping the leaderboards in practice and qualifying and leading the first 246 laps of the 250-lap race, Lapcevich seemed untouchable.

It wasn't until a late caution with eight to go, that it became anyone’s race to win.

Alex Guenette, who restarted the race from second on the final restart, took the lead with two to go.

While victory was insight for Guenette, the driver of the No. 20 FBM/Delta Bingo Chevrolet was still close behind. In the final corner, Lapcevich got to Guenette's inside, made contact, and drove through on his way to his third win of his NASCAR career, while the No. 3 ASSA ABLOY / Motos Illimitées Chevrolet finished second.

“Those restarts got nerve racking,” said Lapcevich. “A hole opened up in turn three on that last lap and we were able to get it done.

The only laps that Lapcevich did not lead were held by Guenette, who starts the season with his new team, Ed Hakonson Racing.

“I gave it all I had there. Got the lead with one lap to go but just came up short,” said Guenette. “Gives us a lot of confidence for the rest of the season”.

Kevin Lacroix, who was a close contender in the three-way battle for the lead on the final restart, finished the race in third, ahead of reigning champion Marc-Antoine Camirand, and Donald Theetge, who rounded out the top-five.

D.J. Kennington, L.P. Dumoulin, J.P. Bergeron, Larry Jackson, and Brandon Watson finished sixth through 10th respectively.

The 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s season will continue next weekend, Sunday, May 21, at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario. The race can be streamed live on TSN+ and FloRacing.

The 2023 NASCAR Pinty's season starts this weekend for the #74 of Kevin Lacroix. (Photo-Matthew Manor)

Saint-Eustache, Quebec – It's finally the start of the NASCAR Pinty's race season for Kevin Lacroix, who will be driving the #74 Lacroix Tuning | NAPA Auto Parts car for the entirety of the 2023 season.

The season will be kicking off at Sunset Speedway in Ontario this Saturday, May 13th. The team is ready to celebrate Lacroix's 8th full-time season, this time equipped with a new level of determination.

"We have a new car for ovals," explained Lacroix. "We've been having trouble with our oval car for the past three years and we couldn’t seem to find the problem. So we decided to change it for this season. We have completed some testing at Autodrome Chaudière and it appears that the problems have been resolved. Of course, private testing is not all-encompassing, and the real test will come once we are on track with the rest of the field."

He will be racing in the NAPA Performance Synthetic Oil livery this weekend at Sunset Speedway, "I'm happy to be able to represent NAPA and its performance synthetic oil at the track", he said. "Our stores were welcomed under their banner last year, and I'm proud to be able to display their colours all across Canada."

He will start the NASCAR Pinty's season at the Innisfil track, located 40 minutes from Toronto. The 1/3 mile oval will host the NTN Ultimate Bearing Experience 250, a 250 lap event, which includes a 5 minute break at the halfway mark on lap 125.

Last year, the Saint-Eustache driver finished in 5th place, a respectable result to start the season. This year, he is aiming to stay out of trouble and claim a Top3-finish in his new oval car.

The race will kick off at 7 p.m., and racing fans can watch the event live on the TSN app.

Thomas Nepveu makes his NASCAR Pinty's Series debut this weekend at Sunset Speedway.
By:Thomas Nepveu Motorsport
May 12, 2023

Oka, Quebec – The first round of the NASCAR Pinty's season will kick off this Saturday at Sunset Speedway. This event will also be Thomas Nepveu’s first-ever stock car race, competing this season in the #24 Evirum | Home Hardware Nepveu car prepared by Jacombs Racing.

Although this is the first event of the season, the Oka native is ready to face the rest of the field; "I tested with Jacombs last fall and in the spring," he explained. "I have experience on oval tracks from my years in USF2000, but it's still an adjustment because both the single-seater and the Porsche are very different cars to drive in comparison to stock cars."

This will be a season of learning opportunities for Nepveu, who will be racing on some of Canada's biggest tracks, "I'm looking forward to getting back on track and racing with the best drivers in the country. My hope is to be able to crack into the top 10 in my first race, but I know it's going to be tough, especially at Sunset Speedway, so I'll have to be strategic and patient."

The Ontario track will host the Sunset Speedway 250, a 250-lap event with a 5-minute break on lap 125 at the halfway mark. The 1/3 mile oval track is located 40 minutes north of Toronto and always attracts a large crowd of racing enthusiasts. Although it is a small track, it is very technical and a great challenge for all drivers.

"I think it will be important to stay out of trouble for the first round of the season," he continued. "Just like in the Porsche Carrera Cup, I’m anticipating that I’ll gain experience and confidence quickly."

The qualifying session for the Sunset Speedway 250 will take place at 5:00 pm. Each driver will have the opportunity to run two laps with the goal of setting the fastest time. Afterwards, the green flag will wave at 7:00 pm for the race. The races will be broadcast live on TSN.ca and the TSN app.
