Picton, Ontario – Tim Kerr has had a strong two weeks behind the wheel of his Bronskill Group/Home Hardware No.07 Big-Block Modified. The Picton, Ont. driver won his second race of the season at Brewerton Speedway on August 19 and earned a second-place result on Saturday at Fulton Speedway.
“We were both good and he was good on the bottom. My only option was to go down to the bottom and move him and I wasn’t really interested in that,” Kerr said of Saturday’s battle with eventual winner Billy Whittaker. “I was trying the middle (groove), high, everything we could. I just couldn’t get in close enough to him to make it happen.”
One week earlier, Kerr was in victory lane at Brewerton, the track known as the D-shaped demon, in the first race for his new Bicknell Racing Products chassis.
“To win at Brewerton a second-time was sweet on its own, but to do it on a new frame without really knowing what to expect, it definitely shows that when everything is right and we keep our game together, we can be as good as anybody out there,” explained a happy Kerr.
After struggling through the middle of the season, Kerr prepared the new car for the stretch drive at Brewerton and Fulton before a number of high-profile Big-Block Modified events in September and October. It’s also given him new confidence.
“That car has been really consistent. I think we have a couple of little tweaks we’re going to try this week to see if that’ll wake it up a little more,” Kerr said.
“It definitely got me turned around. This is the time of season when you have to be full of confidence and on top of your game. The big money races are coming here shortly so it’s not the time of year to be chasing a car. I think it’s paid off for us big time.”
The new ride has produced two top-five finishes and three top-10s in four races so far. Kerr is now preparing to take the car to Brewerton and Fulton this weekend for the final two points races of the season. He sits 13th in Brewerton points and eighth at Fulton prior to the championship night at each track.
“Hopefully we can stay in the top-10 at Fulton and break in to the top-10 at Brewerton. Basically we’ll shoot for it all and try to win the race or finish in the top-five both nights,” Kerr remarked optimistically.
Beyond this weekend’s races, Kerr plans to compete in the Super DIRTcar Series event at Brewerton on September 16 as well as the Outlaw 200 at Fulton on October 1. He’ll return to Brewerton on October 6 for the Hurricane 100 with a guaranteed starting spot in Super DIRT week on the line.
Kerr will race again on Canadian soil at Brockville Speedway’s Fall Nationals on October 15. He also hopes to defend his win at the World Final when the Super DIRTcar Series returns to Charlotte October 27-29.
