Program Will Award Formula 1600 Test To Three Worthy Recipients From The Regional Karting Community

Toronto, Ontario – CASC (Canadian Automobile Sport Clubs) Ontario Region and Move Motorsports Management (Canadian formula car series promoters) jointly announced today the continuation of the innovative scholarship program aimed at the regional karting community.

“We are very proud to be able to make this announcement today,” said CASC President Perry Iannuzzi. “We started the program last year and were astounded at how successful it was. Dan Bender, Taegen Poles and Chase Hanchar were last year’s recipients and had an amazing day learning about the CASC offering and spending a good amount of time behind the wheel of some Formula 1600 cars.”

The scholarship was created with two objectives in mind. Growing awareness and participation in road racing is one, the F1600 experiences are a great way for karters interested in making the jump to see what life can be like club racing in Ontario. The other goal is to use all of the CASC-OR and Toyo Tires F1600 Series events to raise the awareness of club level kart racing in Ontario, ensuring its health and strengthening the future of motorsports in the region.

Partnered on the program is Move Motorsports Management, promoters of both the Toyo Tires F1600 Championship and the newly launched F2000 Canada, both sanctioned by CASC, Ontario Region.

“I am very happy the CASC Board of Directors unanimously voted to continue the program,” said Jason Sharpe of Move Motorsports. “We had a lot of fun seeing the expressions on the three recipients faces when they got their first few laps in a Formula 1600 car and am glad that one of them will be competing in the F1600 series this season. The program works.”

F1600 cars will be on display at kart events across the province promoting the program, and in turn, kart clubs, members and manufacturers are welcome to set up displays and distribute club information at F1600 events. Additionally, karting competitors are encouraged to attend F1600 events in the series hospitality area and meet the teams and drivers.

The Karts to Cars Scholarship is open to residents of Ontario, 15 and older, racing karts at the club level. It is not a program based on race wins and championships but more targeted towards the grassroots racer with a passion for the sport and a huge desire to race cars, for fun.

The winners will be judged by a selection committee and awarded an F1600 experience in October of this year with three of the Toyo Tires F1600 Championships top teams during their series sampler days.

Registration will be done online, the details and criteria of the process to be made public in late April.

CASC ONTARIO REGION is Ontario's governing body of automobile sport, and is comprised of over 26 automobile and sport enthusiast clubs within Ontario. The organization sets rules and regulations for four divisions, Road Racing, Time Attack, Autoslalom and Ice Racing and administers provincial championships in each. Affiliated member clubs organize championship and club-level events in these divisions as well as Lapping Days, Rallies, and other motorsport activities. In addition corner marshals, timers, and safety personnel at many events in Ontario such as the Honda Indy Toronto and the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park Grand Prix are members of their clubs.
