Caistor Centre, Ontario - Team Turner Racing began their 2015 season on a good note, as all three TTR cars finished in the top 10 in Saturday’s Spring Sizzler event for the Patriot Sprint Tour at Merrittville Speedway.

A strong field of 25 cars signed in for Ontario’s first Sprint Car race of the season. Jamie Turner and son Cory drew front row starting positions in the first heat race, while Ryan’s rookie status relegated him to the back row in the third heat race.

“My Dad started pole in his heat and won it from the front row,” Cory said. “I started outside pole and faded to fifth, which still transferred me to the feature. Later, we found out I had a bad torsion bar in the right rear and we were able to get it changed in time for the feature.”

Ryan started 8th in his first Sprint Car heat race. He finished 7th, and had to run the B-Main as a result.

“(Ryan) started 3rd in the B-Main and won it,” Cory said of his younger brother. “He started 18th in the feature and was able to get all the way up to 10th. With a couple more laps he probably could have passed my Dad for 9th!”

Jamie’s luck in the draw didn’t repeat for the feature, as he pulled the pill for the 8th starting spot.

“(Jamie) was in top 5 for some of the race, but faded to finish 9th,” said Cory. “His car got a little tight as the track lost moisture.”

Cory started 16th in the feature, and fell as far back as 18th after spinning to avoid a crash on the third lap.

“My car was far too tight at the start of the race but in the later stages I ran my fastest laps of the race,” Cory said. “I was able to get all the way to 7th, and had 5th and 6th in my sights; I just needed a few more laps…The cars ran great and we were very happy with our results right out of the box.”

The team has a bit of a lull in the schedule now, with no racing this weekend, and only the Ohsweken Speedway Test & Tune Night next weekend. Their season begins in earnest on Victoria Day weekend, with a triple-header weekend on the schedule - Ohsweken Speedway’s weekly Sprint Car series kicks off Friday, May 15, while the Southern Ontario Sprints tour will open their season at Brighton Speedway on Saturday, May 16, and Humberstone Speedway on Sunday, May 17.
