This weekend during the Victoria Day SpeedFest presented by Castrol at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP), race fans will get their first up close look at the new design of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge as driver DJ Kennington hits the track for the first race of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season.
It’s a bold new look for the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and reaction to photos on social media has been 100% positive. Kennington was happy for the opportunity to shake things up. “We built some new cars as we normally do in the off-season” said Kennington “and with new brand material at Castrol we also got to do a re-design on the car,” he explained.
Kennington also intends to shake things up on track this year with the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “We had a few struggles last year with the car, maybe tried to do a little too much, but this year we’re really excited about our equipment and goal number one is getting back on top with a win” stated Kennington.
In preparation for the new season Kennington had the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge on track at CTMP last week for an on track test session. Afterwards he was a little surprised but pleased with the results. “I couldn’t believe we ran a lap as quick as we did” he stated. “I thought that I didn’t get through a couple of corners particularly well, but it shows us we’ve a strong car to start the season” he added.
Kennington has won previously on the famous CTMP 10-turn road course and knows how important it is to kick the year off on the right foot. “It’s not a long season and if you struggle early then you’re playing catch up. I’d love to grab another win here with Castrol presenting the whole weekend and they’ll have a lot of supporters and free ticket winners here for the race. It would be a perfect start to the year”.
The Castrol Victoria Day SpeedFest runs this Friday May 15 and continues through Sunday. Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge will practice and qualifying on Saturday. The opening race of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series is Sunday afternoon with green flag at 12:30PM Eastern.
