Caistor Centre, Ontario - Cory Turner came tantalizingly close to his first career Sprint Car feature win on Saturday night at South Buxton Raceway, but ended up finishing 2nd. Jamie Turner finished 5th, and Ryan Turner drove from the 16th on the grid to finish 8th.

Jamie Turner, sons Cory and Ryan, and the rest of the Team Turner crew were planning to compete at Ohsweken Speedway on Friday night, but a mid-afternoon downpour forced the cancellation of that event. The "Sponsor Night" activities scheduled for that evening were also postponed, and will be rescheduled later this summer.

None of the three Team Turner Racing drivers had ever laid eyes on South Buxton Raceway before making the trip to Chatham-Kent on Saturday for the third round of the Southern Ontario Sprints season. It didn't take them long to get acclimated to the unique D-shaped track.

"(Jamie) started outside pole in the first heat race and won it," Cory said. "I was lucky enough to start on the outside pole and win (the third heat race) as well! Ryan started sixth in his heat race and finished sixth."

The 25 lap feature race started with another first for Team Turner. Jamie and Cory started up front, while Ryan started on the outside of the eighth row.

"My Dad and I were lucky enough to both be on the front row - the first time that has ever happened in feature action, so that was pretty cool!" Cory exclaimed.

The race began haltingly, as the red flag came out twice before two laps were complete. The large crowd on hand was treated to a great race after the early mishaps.

"I was able to get the jump on (Jamie) heading into turn one and set sail until running into heavy lap traffic around the lap 10 mark," Cory remembered. "In lap traffic my Dad really closed the gap on me as (the slower cars) were running two wide, and I was unable to get around them! I also had more company than just my Dad, but the pressure subsided after a mid race caution.

"On the restart I was able to get the jump again, and open up a decent lead until I spun my wheels late in the race and Chris Jones was able to get by me. It was a pretty epic battle and a great race for the fans. I didn't come out on top, but it was a ton of fun racing for the lead, and I was ecstatic to bring home my best finish in a Sprint Car!"

Cory settled for the runner-up spot, while Jamie finished 5th, and Ryan moved through the pack to finish 8th and take "Hard Charger" honours.

"I was extremely proud of our team," Cory said. "Three top tens, two top fives, and a podium is by far our best single race result as a team this year. My Brother did an especially great job to miss multiple wrecks on a very, very narrow race track. We are hoping to build on this momentum for this Friday at Ohsweken!"
