Racing veteran Jason White returned to competition in the #21 Hal-nor Plumbing/Powder Ventures Dodge for round number three of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Sunset Speedway near Innisfil, Ontario Saturday night. White and team owner Rob McConnell were excited to be competing at the first ever series race at the 1/3-mile oval. However their night would end prematurely.
It was last August that White last competed in the ultra competitive National series and naturally there was a little rust to knock off but things came together quickly for everyone. “I hadn’t worked with this team before but all the guys were great and we got through tech and were ready to go right away,” said White.
There was an issue early on in practice with the #21 Hal-nor Plumbing/Powder Ventures Dodge but the team corrected it quickly. “We weren’t running at full power but the guys got it sorted out and we were back on track quickly,” explained White.
As the 300-lap feature event began White was cautious at first in the #21 Hal-nor Plumbing/Powder Ventures Dodge. Soon though he found a rhythm and was running lap times very close to the race leaders. “Everything was going just as we wanted,” said White. “Our lap times were within a couple of tenths of the leaders”.
Shortly after though White noticed a problem with the #21 Hal-nor Plumbing/Powder Ventures Dodge. “I knew something was wrong,” said White “and I had to hit pit road and let the team have a look”.
What the team found was a serious problem with the transmission that would end the night early for the #21 Hal-nor Plumbing/Powder Ventures Dodge group. “I was so frustrated when we found that, I was just taking it easy out there and really felt we had a great finish ahead of us. It stings tonight but I know we’ll be really strong when we get back at the next time” stated White.
