Bowmanville, Ontario – This weekend was the first 2020 outing for CTCC presented by Pirelli after a long shutdown period due to Covid-19. With its revised schedule, the first two rounds were held behind closed doors at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park where CTCC was taking part of the BARC – Canadian Touring Trophy Races event.

In addition to a new set of guidelines that all teams and personnel had to comply to, extreme hot temperature was also part of the weekend setting. Taking into consideration that we are [still] in a pandemic, the reduced field was able to deliver great on-track action.

Both days went on with an early morning qualifying session and early afternoon race. The TCR field was well represented with nine competitors showcasing three different manufacturers (Audi, Honda and Hyundai). The GT Sport field was featuring the No. 13 McLaren 570S of Orey Fidani. Fidani led the pack in style with consistency throughout the weekend.

The Saturday 40-minute race offered a close competition between the TCR participants. Within the TCR field, two new CTCC contenders were amongst the experienced group. Zachary Vanier was on board of the No. 9 Audi RS3 LMS/ Pfaff Motorsport and Connor Attrell drove the No. 80 Hyundai i30N/Hyundai Canada Racing. The final result awarded the first place to 2019 Champion Gary Kwok in the No. 1 Honda Civic Type R/M&S Racing, followed by Bob Attrell with the No. 88 Hyundai Veloster N/Hyundai Racing Canada and Marco Cirone in the No. 82 Audi RS3 LMS/Mark Motors Racing. The rookie Connor Attrell passed the checkered in fourth position, well within the pack.

Sunday’s contest was a perfect and clean battle all around. Starting from the second position on the grid, the young rookie Zachary Vanier disputed a solid race against veterans Gary Kwok and Bob Attrell. Vanier took the lead early in the race and battled back and forth against Kwok to keep the first place. At the checked, Vanier crossed the finish line with a margin of 0:065 over Kwok. Attrell finished third.

The first event already behind us, we are looking forward to another close and exciting battle on August 14-16, 2020 at Shannonville Motorsport Park for the SMP Cup.
