Shannonville, Ontario – The second outing of the CTCC presented by Pirelli 2020 campaign took place this weekend at Shannonville Motorsport Park. Once again, despite the Covid-19 guidelines that are now part of our procedures and normal practices, we have experienced another successful event.

A smaller field allowed competitors to have a more intimate rivalry, giving everyone the opportunity to shine. Saturday’s contest, running on the Long track, proved to be an efficient setup to present great TCR battles. For several laps, Damon Sharpe (#84 Audi RS3 LMS /Blanchet Motorsports) was caught between father and son team Bob Attrell (#88 Veloster N/Hyundai Racing Canada) in front and rookie Connor Attrell (#80 i30N/Hyundai Racing Canada) right behind him until Bob went off track. This misfortune cost Attrell some valuable time and finished behind his son Conner, in sixth place.

Meanwhile, rookie Zachary Vanier (#9 Audi RSL LMS/PFAFF Motorsport) took a perfect score on Saturday by starting on pole and keeping that position throughout the race, trying to catch up with GT Sport #13 McLaren 570S/AWA of Orey Fidani. The battle for the second place was hardly fought between Ron Tomlinson (#48 Audi RS3 LMS/TWOth Autosport) and Marco Cirone (#82 Audi RS3 LMS/Mark Motors Racing) where Tomlinson was pressured by Cirone who was waiting for the smallest opportunity to pass and finally got through during the last few minutes of the race. This put Cirone in second place and Tomlinson in third, his best finish so far in CTCC.

Sunday’s morning qualifying session was interrupted due to lightning. The severe weather added delays, disrupting the event schedule, and pushing the start of the race by one hour.

Start of Round 4 was impeccable. The final race of the weekend was perfectly done and went as well as the previous one, and without incidents. Starting first in the TCR class, Zachary Vanier established his position and kept a solid distance ahead of his closest rival Gary Kwok (#1 Honda Civic Type R/M&S Racing). Kwok had to make a quick pit stop [overheating] with just over five minutes to go but it was just long enough to get back on track right behind Marco Cirone. Cirone grabbed the second place and Kwok finished third. Fourth in class was Damon Sharpe (#84 Audi RS3 LMS/Blanchet Motorsports).

One of the fascinating highlights of the race was to follow Connor Attrell who ran an exceptional race and finished in fifth position, getting up to speed and shared some good moments with Ron Tomlinson who finished sixth. Bob Attrell passed the checkered in seventh position, followed by Tom Kwok.

The short season of CTCC will end at Calabogie Motorsports Park on August 29-30 with a last double header. This last event will be even more stimulating as Round 6 will count for double points. It was also announced to the TCR teams that the driver who will take home the crown will get a free 2021 season entry.
