Before the Indy Lights qualifying session at the Honda Indy Toronto, RaceCanada caught up with the only Canadian running the series full time, Zack Meyer, and had an opportunity to chat with Zack for a few minutes between breifing sessions.

RaceCanada - Coming into your home town street course, how do you prepare differently than from a road course?

Zack Meyer – Well, for starters, I get to sleep in my own bed... I generally prepare the same for both. The only difference would be if it rains, and it might, you have to be a lot more precise because there is not much room for error.

RC – How important is a home town race for you and your sponsors?

ZM – It's really important, it's easy for for everyone helping me to have an opportunity to get down and see me, although that can add to the pressure. But when the helmet goes on it's game time and we just get down to business, regardless of where you are.

RC – Is it more difficult as a Canadian to find enough sponsorship and support with only one home-town race?

ZM – Yes, definitely, but you know it's also hard finding sponsorship in the U.S. as well. It's also difficult for me without the experience and long resume of racing cars as many or my competitors so my challenge is to get as much time behind the wheel to build out a better portfolio to present to sponsors.

RC – As for today, what do you still have to work on to move up?

ZM – I think our biggest challenge right now is in turn 10. If I can gain a little bit there, it will help on the whole track, and maybe move up to a top 5, maybe even 4th.

RC – Will you make any changes to the car between qualifying and the race?

ZM – We don't want to give away secrets, but we'll definitely make changes to the car for the race, but it's nothing that the fans will be able to see. I'll definitely be able to feel changes though.

RC – The series is still struggling for entries, how are you feeling about the series?

ZM – I feel pretty good about the series, obviously it would be a lot better if we had 30 cars, and maybe more coverage and time on TV, but everybody in the series is good and very helpful, it's a good series.

RC – Do you have a preference for road courses or ovals?

ZM – Road courses, all day, every day.

RC – What is the ultimate goal for Zack Meyer?

ZM – Just keep pushing, doing the best I can and try to make a living racing cars.

RC – You're currently in open-wheel, would that include a move to sports cars?

ZM – Yes, that's definitely a possibility, wherever it takes me. What ever doors are open, I would never rule anything out.

RC – Have you talked to any sports car teams or looked into any series?

ZM – No, not yet, but that is something we are going to have to start looking at the near future, but one thing at a time right now.
