Toronto, Ontario – Innisfil, Ont.-based racer Zack Meyer started the day determined to put his #2 TMR/DAMIS PARTNERS III/Innisfil Indy Karting/Xtreme Coil Drilling car on the podium for his hometown Grand Prix of Toronto. After just one corner, though, Meyer's hopes were dashed as he was involved in an incident in the first corner of the first lap of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires race. Luiz Razia made contact with Meyer's car, forcing him into the wall and damaging both his front wing and the suspension on his car.

The 21-year-old Canadian racer qualified in eighth place and was brimming with confidence heading into this morning's race. "The car felt good in qualifying yesterday, we just didn't have the luck or the timing we needed in order to have a better qualifying result," Meyer commented. "This morning, though, I felt good and was prepared to make a great start and move up."

When the green flag fell for the abbreviated 45-minute race, Meyer made a great start, squeezing into a position that could have put him in the top five on the exit of the first corner. However, a bottleneck quickly occurred, Razia collided with Meyer, and the young Canadian brought his car to the pit lane for repairs. The Team Moore Racing crew was able to quickly change the front wing and return Meyer to the track while only lose one lap to the leaders. With the car at speed, though, the extent of the suspension damage became apparent and Meyer was able to soldier home with an ill-handling car.

"I'm super disappointed not to be able to have a better finish here in front of all of my family and friends," said a frustrated Meyer after the race. "I made a great start and was there, but as always stuff happens in the first corner and there's not a lot you can do about it. We'll head to Mid-Ohio in a couple weeks and I'll continue to stay positive and mentally strong in addition to staying fit for a physically demanding track."

Meyer, the sole Canadian racing full-time in Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, gets back to work on August 1-3 for a doubleheader weekend at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

A homegrown racer from Toronto, Ont., Meyer began his racing career in karting at Innisfil Indy Karting. Meyer's racing career blossomed under the tutelage of his driver coach and manager, Joe Launi.
