Cologne, Germany – Canadian race car driver, David Richert, is heading to Belgium for this weekend's Northern European Cup (NEC) race at the daunting circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. The event will run in conjunction with the hugely popular "24 Hours of Spa" race weekend and is expected to draw in excess of 70,000 spectators.

The circuit at Spa-Francorchamps, named after towns in the surrounding area, is steeped in history and a favorite amongst racing drivers. The 7km long track twists it's way through the Ardennes hills and features numerous high speed corners with dramatic elevation change.

"Being able to race at Spa-Francorchamps is a dream come true, but it's not a dream that allows me to relax and enjoy the ride. I expect this to be the most challenging race weekend of my season because not only is the circuit difficult, but the competition will be the best drivers from around the world at this level." –David Richert

28 drivers from 17 different countries are expected to take part in this weekend's NEC event, several of whom are regular competitors in the main Renault Eurocup championship. Richert will be the only driver representing Canada.

In addition to the race this upcoming weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, Richert is fresh off of completing a test day at Eurospeedway Lausitz in eastern Germany on Tuesday. The test day provided Richert with an opportunity to get re-acquainted with the Formula Renault 2.0 race car after a short mid-summer break in the schedule.
