Nelson Mason is preparing for the final race of the GP3 season at Monza this weekend.
TEAMCMS DDI Driver Monza Preview
The final European race of the season is upon as Hilmer Motorsports GP3 sets up camp at the Autodromo di Monza in Italy. The atmosphere is always electric with the extremely passionate Tifosi with superb racing with long, fast straights providing plenty of overtaking opportunities- this place is one of my favourite circuits of the year.
"In today's free practice, we tried different setups between the three team cars but we eventually ran too low down force which was costing us a lot on the back section of the circuit. Some improvements are to be made to the braking as well, allowing us to be able to get our competitive sectors together more easily." Nelson Mason
As the GP3 Series begin to draw to a close this year the competition becomes even closer, with tire strategy and management able to make a crucial difference. The medium tire in GP3 is still more than capable of absorbing all the forces placed on it throughout the race weekend – even though the tire allocation is much smaller than that of both Formula One and GP2. Ambient temperatures should be more stable in Italy than in Belgium, but there is still the possibility of rain.
Tire Rules:
Our Hilmer Motorsport GP3 Dallara will have three sets of dry tires and two sets of wet weather tires available for the Monza race weekend. Only one compound is nominated: medium for this weekend. The drivers can use the tire allocation in any way they like. All the GP3 compounds carry yellow markings.
There is one practice session, one qualifying session and two races in GP3.
Practice session on Friday at 11:50am
Qualifying takes place on Saturday at 3:45am
Race One starts on Saturday at 11:20am and lasts for 17 laps
Race Two at 3:25am on Sunday also 17 laps
The grid for Race Two is determined by the finishing order of the first race, with the top eight positions reversed.
