Flat Track Canada has announced changes to the 2018 schedule.
By: Flat Track Canada
June 29 2018
In the sixth year of the Harley Davidson Canadian national flat track championships presented by Parts Canada which are sanctioned and promoted by Flat Track Canada. We have seen a rapidly changing schedule that typically consists of ten to twelve rounds and increase from virtually an Ontario only series to a True National series. As we've passed through the years, FTC has always provided a solid schedule with a solid product, slowly building and developing each season. As we enter our largest year we have presented one of the best racing schedules the country has ever seen with the best tracks in the country. Having said that we also have to make changes to the schedule yet not offering up any bit of quality to our program, however unforeseen circumstances have contributed to force us to make the following changes.
We have to regretfully announce some cancellations to our schedule that are out of FTC's control but we are adding dates to rightfully make up our losses. As we continue to build our program we are running into hurdles along the way, we will always continue to strive and make successful solutions.
Belleville June 30th is cancelled to be replaced with Welland on July 21st.
Belleville has been the longest standing race track in Canadian Flat Track history. We are always very passionate about running races at Belleville but unfortunately the city of Belleville, the Belleville Agricultural Society and Flat Track Canada could not formulate a suitable solution for 2018. "The Fairgrounds have been poised for development for the last five years and we've been very lucky so far" states Aaron Hesmer, president of Flat Track Canada. "There is a very small possibility of an event for 2019 but there a number of talks among the city for development. There is also talk of a new facility which could possibly feature a new flat track.."
London September 15th cancelled and replaced with Sarnia on September 29th.
There is constant planning for a major casino expansion at the Western Fair District and therefore the timing doesn't work out for 2018. We hope to be back at the staple facility in the future and we will see the return of Hiawatha now on the schedule! Sarnia hosts one of the most beautiful high banked cushion half miles in the country.
Flamboro Downs is now July 28 and Ohsweken Double header is now on the long weekend on August 4th & 5th!
The Flamboro Downs race will is poised to be bigger and better than ever. It once again will feature Harley Demo rides, a gift giveaway by Elements Casinos and the event will actually be donating a portion of the proceeds to BIG BROTHERS & BIG SISTERS. Come out and donate to a great cause! Rumor has it, Flamboro Downs will feature the very first Indian FTR750 in action in Canada piloted by Chad Cose.
The Ohsweken double header will host the 3/8 mile on Saturday evening and Canada's first National TT race on the Sunday. We will be soon promoting the cool new layout. The other amazing feature of this event will be the team up with the Action XPO. This event has seen well over 1,200 kids under the age of 17, skateboarding and pro scootering on the Ohsweken skate park. More details will follow!
Cloverdale BC is postponed to spring 2019 (for 2019 season) and is replaced by Strathmore, Alberta on August 18th.
Unfortunately we were looking forward this event more than anyone. After a long hard fought battle to keep the event alive for August 2018, the event posed too much of a threat to the stabled horses at that particular time in the season. The venue is very welcoming to facilitate the motorcycle race with no issues in the spring of 2019. At this time we will have to abide by their rules to bring the event to fruition for the future
Strathmore Alberta is just east of Calgary and hosts a beautiful cushion 5/8 mile chuck wagon horse track. One of the best facilities around with the best cushion dirt.
