Dunn wins first 358 Modified Feature

Thorold, Ontario – Baron Roofing & Siding Night kicked off the 2015 David Chevrolet King of the Crates Series for the Rick’s Delivery Sportsman Division with St. Catharines Driver Brad Rouse taking home the 30 lap Special.

Watertown NY’s Billy Dunn won his first Pinty’s Delicious Foods 358 Modified Feature while other Lucas Oil Weekly Racing Series action had defending Hoosier Stock Champion Mark Fawcett of Canfield winning his second feature in a row. Welland’s Rob Misener also became a two time winner taking the checkered flag in the Rev’s Full Throttle Powersports Modified Lites with Kyle Rothwell of Port Colborne winning his first of the season in the Van Raine Construction 4 Cylinder Division.

Baron Roofing and Siding’s Terry Keagan provided almost $4,000.00 in Purse Money additions to the top 5 in each division as well as random draws for $100 cash.

“Chad (Chevalier) gave us a good battle,” said Brad Rouse after winning the 30 lap Sportsman Main Event, “ Gary (Lindberg) did too ... I may have got into him though – I’ll have to go apologize to him.”

By virtue of a pre-race draw, Rouse would start on the pole with the pace slowed almost right away on lap 2. Just before the second incident set off a trio of yellow flags as the event neared it’s regular 25 lap distance, Chad Chevalier would take control of top spot.

Rouse would regain the lead following a lap 23 restart with Gary Lindberg moving into second spot. One final caution on lap 27 set up as three lap dash after James Friesen slowed off the pace after contact with Jay Mallory a few laps earlier.

Rouse would hold off Lindberg with Brent Begolo third. Chevalier would settle for 4th with Mallory rounding out the top 5.

In addition to boosting the Top 5 purse money including Rouse’s $1,000 win – Baron Roofing & Siding provided $100 Bonuses via a Victory Lane Draw. Charlie Lynch, Friesen and Jason Farraway took home the cash.

“This is so awesome … we have been struggling so far this year,” said Billy Dunn who celebrated his 31st Birthday with his first Feature Win for car owner Randy Slack of Caledonia, “we’ve been trying this and trying that with this new engine combination and car. I wouldn’t be here without the Slack Family … Randy and his son Bob and Bicknell Racing Products!”

Defending Champion Mat Williamson was first to lead the 35 lap Feature for the Pinty’s Delicious Foods 358 Modified Division with Billy Dunn taking second from Chris Steele just ahead of a lap 4 caution when Boyd MacTavish slowed off the pace but was able to rejoin the field.

Williamson resumed the lead on the restart with Dunn catching the leader on lap 7 and taking top spot on lap 8. The race for third saw Chris Steele and 19 battling for position with Chad Brachmann joining the fray on lap 15. By lap 18 Dunn was into lap traffic with Brachmann landing in third spot.

In the closing laps Williamson could close in on Dunn through the turns but could pull his way on the straightaway holding a 5 car advantage at the checkered flag.

Dunn and Williamson were followed by Brachmann, Steele and Todd Gordon.

Baron Roofing and Siding $100 Cash Bonuses went to Scott Wood, Boyd MacTavish and Chris Bellamy.

“Made a few more changes from last week,” said Mark Fawcett after taking home his 2nd Straight Hoosier Stock Feature, “it was great to see all the cars in the starting field tonight. Everyone took to the high side so I stuck to the bottom and here we are!”

Billy Bleich out raced fellow front row starter Kevin Knapp to the green flag to start the 20 lap Event until caution would slow the field on lap 2 after Jason Fontaine came to a stop high in Turn 4 in a quick cloud of smoke.

Knapp had taken control of top spot just before the caution and set the pace on the restart. Exiting Turn 2 of lap 4 Mark Fawcett took control of the lead and in a couple quick laps had opened up a lead of some 5 car lengths.

By lap 10 Fawcett was off to an advantage of some 10 car lengths with Knapp facing a challenge from Pete Reid. Into lap traffic the defending champion wasn’t slowed increasing his lead. The battle for third between Knapp and Bleich had the two side by side.

Fawcett was followed by Pete Reid who made a late race charge to take second with Knapp, Bleich and Dave Bailey closing out the Top 5.

Baron Roofing and Siding $100 Cash Bonuses went to Marcel Michaud, Nick Liverance and Dale Gyokery.

“The view looked pretty clear from my point,” said Rob Misener after winning his second Rev’s Full Throttle Powersports Modified Lite Feature when asked about all the action behind him.

Dylan Davidson held a slight edge over RJ Pietz on the start of the 15 lap Feature for before Misener snuck into top spot out of Turn 2 the first time.

Lap 3 saw the pace slowed with Ray Sliter Jr. and Paul Klager racing into the top 3 before the caution.

Misener set the pace on the restart until a Turn 4 collision when Jamie Gilbert got out of shape with Josh Sliter and Dylan Davidson collected. Davidson would roll his 73 gently but all were ok.

Misener resumed control once the red flag was lifted with Klager makng a challenge – the closest coming on lap 12 but couldn’t make it stick.

Misener was followed by Klager, defending champion Jeffrey May, Josh Sliter and Ray Sliter, Jr.

$100 Baron Roofing and Siding Cash Awards went to Marty deMoel, Mike Journeaux and Davidson.

“Thanks to Rob Goulding for all his help,” said first time 2015 4 Cylinder Feature Winner Kyle Rothwell, “I wouldn’t be anywhere near as fast without him.”

Brian Teeple was first to lead the 15 lap event for the Van Raine Construction sponsored divsion with cars three wide the first time down the backstretch. Top spot didn’t change but the 2nd time out of Turn 2 Sam Iftody took control just as cars back in the pack came together including Point Leader Rob Goulding, Mike Sadusek and Alex Riley slpwing the pace.

Jeremy Smith was the new leader edging ahead of Teeple into Turn 1 on the restart. Kyle Rothwell quickly took over top spot with Leroy Buscumb and Tyler Lafantaisie following suit to fill out the Top 3.

With Rothwell pulling away to a 10 car lead on Buscumb who opened up a similar lead on the field with a number of drivers battling for third spot. Caution on lap 10 would slow the pace once again

Just before the caution, Evan Curtis took third spot from Lafantaisie with Rothwell back out in front in the return to action. Buscumb would battle the leader until the defending champion faced a challenge from Curtis.

Rothwell ran away to 5 car advantage at the checkered flag ahead of Buscumb, Curtis, Kyle Haynes and Lafantaisie.

Baron Roofing and Siding $100 Cash Awards went to Trevor Young, Gary Hodasun and Mike Sadusek.
