Brighton, Ontario – Brighton Speedway’s final week of regular racing before a trio of special events has become a big event on its own. A rainout two weeks ago has scheduled the final Fan Appreciation night of the season for Saturday, August 27 along with the Kids Race for the Canadian National Autism Foundation presented by Greig Truck and Trailer, Behan Construction, and Towne & Country Liquidation.

Representatives from the Canadian National Autism Foundation will be on hand to provide information and resources about autism and the Kids Race. The CNAF is a non-profit organization run by parents of children with autism in Canada. Brighton Speedway is happy to partner with CNAF to help raise autism awareness in our local community and in Canada.

The night’s racing features an action-packed schedule with four divisions on the card. The Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models will headline the show also featuring the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modifieds, Brighton Automotive Pro Stocks and Bill’s Johns Comp 4s.

Entering Saturday’s race, the 18th week of the season, the Vanderlaan Building Products Pro Late Models feature the tightest point battle of any division. Phil Potts and Charlie Sandercock sit tied at 2440 points each through 13 races. Three points races remain this season to decide the track championship.

The two drivers have traded the points lead multiple times over the last couple of weeks and there’s a common feeling the battle will come down to the final night. A repeat of 2013’s championship duel where Sandercock and Corey Earl were tied after the final race seems entire possible. The two drivers settled the championship with a head-to-head 10-lap race, which Sandercock won.

Adam Turner remains in the hunt as well, 75 points back in third, while Brandon Mowat sits fourth, 165 points back, and Kyle Sopaz occupies fifth.

Andrew Hennessy has a comfortable 335-point advantage at the top of the Bainer’s OilGARD Canadian Modified standings with Kraig Handley second and Dan Ferguson third. Josh Hennessy and Derrick Greig occupy the final top-five spots.

The battle in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock division has also tightened up with Justin Ramsay just 150 markers ahead of Doug Anderson for the championship lead. Brandon Murrell holds third-place ahead of the injured Wade Purchase. Mat Purchase will drive the final four points races of the season in place of his son. Jonah Mutton is fifth.

Tyler French has a cushy 400-point lead over rookie Matthew Moore with three points races remaining. French needs only to start this week’s feature to secure the championship. Peter Moore jumped to third in the standings on the strength of his third-place finish. Adam Flieler and Luke Toms round out the top-five.

Race time is 7:00pm, but spectator gates will open at 5:30pm for the popular Fan Appreciation event. Adult admission is just $10 and a Family Pass is $25. Additional event details at www.brightonspeedway.ca.
