Repentigny, Quebec – Sometimes, in a mechanical sport such as unpredictable as NASCAR, a talented driver will start from the back of the grid due to any problem. Generally, this aberration result in a beautiful rise by the driver just like what Alex Labbé achieved with the No.32 Ford Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear. He started the last event of the 2016 NASCAR Pinty’s Series at the back of the grid and managed to finish 3rd, on the podium after 250 laps onto the Kawartha Speedway (KS) last Sunday’s afternoon.

Saturday’s race was postponed to Sunday due to heavy rain showers that would not allow the driver to continue after two-practice sessions. The delayed left drivers to intriguing condition for qualifying on Sunday, indeed without preparation. The Victoriaville, Quebec native racer set the 6th fastest lap time during qualifying but he was not too happy about the breaks and he asked his team to make adjustments. “We had nothing to lose at this point and I had to pomp my break during my qualifying lap,” explained Alex Labbé. “My guys made adjustments and that led us to start from the back of the starting grid. In fact, I did not waste my time to reach the leader of the race. I raced him hard but my Ford Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear couldn’t keep up in the long run. By the end of the race, the tires air-pressure was too high to let me battle, but I was able to hold on to the 3rd position.”

In fewer than 150 laps, the Can-Am car raised to the top to compete with the current leader. On few occasions, fans believed Labbé took the lead, but his car was stopping him from moving further. Despite 3 required pit stops, the Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear team worked hard and fast on the Ford no. 32 to prevent the driver from losing track position. Back to racing, he climbed the pack to run second again but this time he had competition. He dropped to the third position and was not able to retake on his lost with too high air-pressure in its tires. With wisdom and a lot of talent, Alex Labbé finished his 2016 season on the podium in 3rd, leading him to end standing in 7th in the season championship with 423 points.

Fans will be able to watch the Kawartha250 broadcast on TSN2, Sunday, October 2nd at 12:30p.m. and on RDS2, Friday, October 21st at 9:30p.m. Also, a Year in Review show from TSN will be soon announced.
