Saturday was a special day for DJ Kennington the driver of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series. Just one week after a challenging race in Quebec Kennington stormed back to score a hard earned sixth place finish on the streets of Exhibition Place during round number five of the 2017 season.

During practice and qualifying on Friday the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge wasn’t the quickest car on track but Kennington felt he had a solid ride for the 35 lap main event. “I didn’t push it too hard in practice or even qualifying but felt really comfortable with what the car was doing” said Kennington.

DJ would begin the race from the 11th position but as soon as the green flag dropped to begin the 35 lap race on Saturday Kennington quickly had the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge on the move and into the top-ten. “I thought we’d be good on this kind of warm day and the car felt really good early on” he stated.

Knowing that the race can take a toll on equipment Kennington settled the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge into a comfortable rhythm and pace. “We had some good racing out there all day and I had the car to battle,” he stated. “But I also knew that there were was a good chance to gain more spots in the late going” he added.

Continuing to push forward and aided by a late caution Kennington powered the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge across the finish line in sixth position. A nice birthday gift for the driver. “It was a good day for us” he summed up.

“We struggled a bit last week and that was disappointing. But the team dug in and worked hard, we were a lot better and that felt good and we can build from here. I’m really happy we put on a good show for all the Castrol folks that were here this weekend, and to have my family with me to celebrate is really nice” said Kennington.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team now heads west for the series annual trip to the prairies with the first stop at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Wednesday July 26th.
