DJ Kennington the driver of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge in the NASCAR Pinty’s Series opened up the annual western swing for the series in strong fashion at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In the first ever series double-header Kennington powered his way to runner up finishes in both 100-lap events.

Kennington has won twice previously at the 1/3 mile oval and had the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge running some of the quickest times during practice and qualified third for the first 100-lap feature. “The team did a great job preparing for this event,” he stated. “Having two races on the same day, you’ve got to be good right away” he added.

Right from the start Kennington diced with the leaders in the first race and would push the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge out front into the late stages of the race. A couple of late caution periods bunched the field up and Kennington would cross the finish line in second. “The car just wouldn’t turn quite right in the middle of the corner. We’ll make some adjustments for the second race and I think we’ll be even better,” he said following the first race.

For the second race starting positions were determined by competitors fastest lap during the first race and Kennington would start the second event from pole position and lead for more than half of the race in his #17 Castrol Edge Dodge.

Though he fought tooth and nail Kennington again surrendered the lead in the late going, and would bring the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge across the line in second position. “Man, I wanted that win so bad” said a somewhat frustrated Kennington afterwards. “We were so close, the racing we had with the #76 car was really great, you can’t do that with everyone and it was a lot of fun. And I know we’re going to be back in the winners circle really soon” he added.

With back-to-back second place finishes Kennington now sits fourth in the overall championship standings.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will now head to Edmonton International Raceway for the next event on Saturday July 29th.
