Sauble Beach, Ontario - Andrew Gresel made his first Super Late Model start of the season at the OSCAAR Racing Don Biederman Memorial at Flamboro Speedway last Saturday night and came away with the victory in the twin Feature event.

It was Gresel’s first race behind the wheel of his Sauble Falls/Gallinger Ford/CUSW ride since the Gold Rush 100 at Flamboro last August.

“We got to Flamboro and had tires that sat on it all winter and it was working really well in practice,” Gresel said.

“We didn’t struggle with it at all. We put the new rubber on for the first race and it was really good. We started fourth, but I think we took the lead four laps in. It was rocking. It was really good.”

After picking up the checkered flag in the second Feature, Gresel made minor adjustments to his No.81 to compensate for the changing track conditions.

“In the second race, the track tightened up and we weren’t really able to pass anybody,” Gresel explained. “We ended up finishing third. It was good night and it was a fun night. It was good to get the Super out for the Memorial race.”

The third-place finish in the second Feature also solidified Gresel as the overall Don Biederman Memorial champion for 2017. The race was also excellent track time prior to the $10,000 Gold Rush 100 that returns to Flamboro on August 21.

“It was good to get the feel back in the car,” Gresel said. “We may still go down for another practice. There’s a couple of things we want to try in the car. Maybe we’ll do some mock runs for time trials and see what kind of times we can hit. It’s all about qualifying for the Gold Rush race. It just brings that much more excitement to the race.”

Gresel is now switching his focus back to APC United Late Model Series competition as he gears up for competition at his home track, Sauble Speedway, on August 5. It is the Series’ first and only stop at the one-third mile oval located just east of Sauble Beach.

“It’s a big race for us being at home,” Gresel said. “We have a lot of sponsors coming and a lot of family and friends in the area. It’s going to be an exciting race for sure. Hopefully we have a good qualifying run and start somewhere near the top. It would be nice to start in the top-five.”

Although Gresel doesn’t have a win yet in 2017, he enters the race second in Series points on the strength of four top-five finishes in the first five events this season. While he’s run a couple of test sessions at Sauble already, he hopes he can use some of his experience from other track’s earlier this year to his advantage.

“There’s always certain things in the racecar you can resemble from track to track, but I’ve driven Sauble quite a bit,” Gresel said. “My line has changed there quite a bit with the Late Model to try and keep the momentum up. It’s a good racetrack. You can run side-by-side with other guys.”

Race time for the APC Series’ Spira Fire Protection Beat the Heat 100 at Sauble Speedway is 6:00pm. For additional event information, visit www.apcracingseries.com or www.saublespeedway.ca.
