Brno, Czech Republic – Canadian race car driver David Richert survived a deluge of rain this weekend and was able to deliver a strong 5th place result in the ESET Cup Renault race. In addition, Richert managed to bring home a trophy as the only driver to successfully finish the race in the Interserie category.

From the moment cars took to the track on Thursday, an unceasing rain hammered Automotodrom Brno in the Czech Republic as over two inches of rain kept drivers on their toes throughout the entire weekend.14091501b

"It's amazing how much grip these cars can have in such wet conditions, it's only once you end up backwards and out of control that you realize just how quickly you're actually going." -David Richert

When the rain did finally break for a few moments prior to Sunday's race, it simply added further chaos to the situation as teams and drivers were left scrambling on whether to use rain or dry weather tires. Richert opted to start the race on rain tires and ended up tip-toeing around a drying Brno Circuit for the first half of the race before the gamble paid off and rain again began to pour down for the last half of the race.

With just two laps to go, Richert managed to chase down and overtake Czech driver Jaroslav Pospisil for 5th position.

"I am very happy to finish with a decent result this weekend and it's always nice to leave a race event with a trophy. My top priority was to learn as much as possible under these conditions and get a good result, but also to make sure I didn't take any unnecessary risks at this point in the season." -David Richert

This was Richert's last scheduled race with Inter Europol Competition, more details to follow as the season wraps up...

"David Richert is a farm-kid turned professional race car driver from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After building the business side of his racing career, and bringing on board several prominent Canadian business leaders as investors, Richert is set to tackle the highest levels of racing. Richert currently lives in Cologne, Germany, while racing with Inter Europol Competition.
