London, UK – Formula E has today announced its provisional calendar for Season 11 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, with the largest number of races and locations set for a season, following validation by the FIA World Motorsport Council.

Formula E will complete a 17-race season for the first time in its history spanning 11 iconic venues as it continues to pioneer all-electric racing. New race locations in Miami and Diriyah; a double-header of separate races in Monaco – a first for the Principality in any motorsport championship; a double-header of races in Tokyo; and the return of Jakarta complement the roster of other city venues.

The Season 11 campaign will begin in São Paulo on the 7 December 2024 following pre-season testing on 4-7 November 2024 in Valencia. It will be the first time the all-new GEN3 EVO race car will be put through its paces and tested in public, capable of 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds - 36% faster than the current GEN3.

A new venue in Diriyah will host the first double-header of the season on 14-15 February 2025, while the series returns to Miami for the first time since Season 1 in an all-new location on 12 April 2025. The Homestead-Miami Speedway venue draws on its heritage and success in hosting thrilling NASCAR and IndyCar races for decades.

Monaco will, for the first time in the Principality’s history, host separate back-to-back motor races on the full Circuit de Monaco given the competitive and action-packed nature of Formula E races.

Following the hugely successful inaugural Tokyo E-Prix where public roads in the world’s most populous city were closed for an automotive event for the first time, a double header of races will take place on 17-18 May 2025.

Jakarta also returns to the calendar following a one-year hiatus, while a double-header finale at ExCeL London rounds out the largest Formula E race calendar to date.

One location has been included as TBC while final discussions with a new venue take place, ahead of the confirmed calendar announcement due in the autumn following the FIA's World Motor Sport Council Meeting.

Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said
“For Season 11 we’re taking electric racing to the next level and doings things never been done before in motorsport. Our world-leading GEN3 EVO will debut in front of hundreds of millions of fans around the globe, while adding two brand new locations and combinations of double-headers to grow our sport further. The new and improved calendar offers a perfect blend of circuits for drivers to push their upgraded cars to the limit, while staying true to our street racing DNA and the on-track action it produces.”

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer, Formula E, said
“We’re thrilled to offer a calendar with some fresh new highlights while building on our legacy locations. Returning to Miami gives us a home in one of the US’s most iconic and sports-mad cities, while securing a double-header in Monaco is a dream come true. We can’t wait to build on the success of Tokyo and deliver a double-header, while returning to Jakarta and entertaining our huge Indonesian fanbase too. With 17 races across the season and our most advanced race car debuting on track, we’re offering our fans cutting edge sport we could only have hoped for when founding the championship just over 10 years ago.”

Marek Nawarecki, Director, FIA Circuit Sport Department, said
“The 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship calendar features a range of circuits that will truly showcase the qualities of the brand new GEN3 EVO car, set to be introduced next season. I’m glad that Formula E capitalises on the success of the Tokyo and Shanghai races whilst also returning to some of its iconic venues and retaining a good amount of street circuits, which is in its core DNA. I'm also hopeful that this new season will again play host to some fascinating action on track.”

Porsche has committed to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for at least an additional four years beyond GEN3, extending their involvement to at least 2030 and aligning with the introduction of the GEN4 vehicles.
By: FIA Formula E
May 23, 2024

Shanghai, China - On the eve of the first Shanghai E-Prix, Formula E has announced that Porsche has committed at least an additional four years to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship until at least 2030, continuing its manufacturer’s outfit for GEN4. The news precedes Formula E’s highly anticipated return to China, four seasons since its last visit to the country and 10 years after their historic first race held in Beijing in 2014.

Ahead of the 2024 Shanghai E-Prix, Porsche AG and Porsche Motorsport alongside Formula E and the FIA have confirmed Porsche’s registration to continue to be a manufacturer in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from Seasons 13 to 16, committing their involvement until at least 2030.

This decision ensures that the Stuttgart-based sportscar manufacturer will be on the grid when the next generation of vehicles, known as GEN4, debuts in the all-electric racing series. With features like all-wheel drive that can be activated at certain points in the race, the new generation presents an additional technical challenge for the teams. GEN4 will be introduced in Season 13 (2026/2027), providing manufacturers with greater scope for development and offering valuable insights for their series production.

Other technology promised in the revolution GEN4 era will be focused on significant breakthroughs in energy efficiency, race performance, and safety standards. This next-gen platform will introduce features such as regeneration capacity reaching up to 700kW and a power output surge up to 600kW.

This announcement aligns with the long-term goals of Formula E, the FIA, and Porsche for electrification and innovation in the automotive industry, both on and off the track. The landmark agreement highlights a sustained partnership focused on advancing electric racing technology, showcasing the dedication of all three organisations in pushing the boundaries of electric mobility and sustainability worldwide. Furthermore, it solidifies Porsche's position as one of the pioneering Formula E manufacturers, ready to embrace the championship's exciting GEN4 phase, ahead of its official debut.

PORSCHE IN FORMULA E: YEARS OF PERFORMANCE EVOLUTION
Alongside its commitments as a manufacturer in Formula E, the works-run TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team boasts a legacy of success that few can rival. Since its entry into Formula E in Season 6, they have continuously been at the forefront of competition. As they pass the midpoint of their fifth season, their track record speaks volumes: eight thrilling victories, alongside 16 podium finishes, and six pole positions - all in just 68 race starts.

Porsche have also continuously expanded its operations, exemplified by both the works-run TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team and the American customer outfit, Andretti Formula E, who showcase the cutting-edge technology of the Porsche 99X Electric. Developed in the state-of-the-art, net CO2-neutral Weissach facility, this innovative electric racing car exemplifies Porsche’s leadership in electrification, sustainability and advancing motor technology. This strategic move of committing to the GEN4 era underscores the manufacturers commitment to fostering even further growth and innovation within the sport.
Porsche’s pledge to the GEN4 era extends its ABB FIA Formula E World Championship involvement to at least 2030. This landmark decision heralds a remarkable chapter in the company's motorsport narrative, revealed to the world in a country that is not only historical ‘home’ of Formula E after its first-ever race was held in Beijing 10 years ago, but also a market that is particularly significant for Porsche and the growth of EV adoption worldwide.

As a global motoring icon with a storied legacy, Porsche’s commitment to the Formula E GEN4 era is set to significantly influence the future of sustainable mobility. This renewal of an already successful partnership with both Formula E and the FIA underscores their vision for a more sustainable and technologically advanced world.

The announcement comes as anticipation builds for the first-ever Shanghai E-Prix, which will take place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May 2024. Formula E’s return to China after four seasons away, shows their underlying commitment to becoming a truly global championship at the forefront of electric innovation. The announcement also follows commitments from both Nissan and Jaguar as manufacturers in the GEN4 era - accelerating the momentum that is set to make the GEN4 era the fastest and most exciting yet.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Executive Officer, Formula E said:
“With their unwavering commitment and innovative spirit, we are thrilled to announce that Porsche will continue to be a cornerstone of our championship for at least another four years. Their dedication to the highly anticipated GEN4 era not only pushes the boundaries of technology and performance but also sets a new standard for excellence in worldwide motorsport. With Porsche’s expertise and high-performance powertrains as one of the world’s most revered automotive manufacturers, this renewed partnership bolsters an exciting future for Formula E, filled with even more groundbreaking achievements and unforgettable racing moments.”

Alberto Longo, Chief Championship Officer and Co-Founder, Formula E said:
“Porsche’s commitment to Formula E for the new GEN4 era is a testament to their dedication in pushing the boundaries of technology and motorsport. It epitomises their confidence in our championship that will, in 2026, be entering an exciting new chapter. Alongside the FIA, Formula E is at the forefront of electric motorsport, perfectly aligning with Porsche’s vision for the future of racing and automotive development. While they continue to use Formula E as a platform for innovation and electric road-car development, their involvement as a manufacturer in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship ensures it retains its position as one of the more thrilling and competitive series in world motorsport.”

Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG said:
“Right from the outset, we regarded our Formula E commitment as long-term. The evolution of racing vehicles shows how much development potential there is in e-mobility. Going forward, we want to glean even more knowledge from Formula E that we can transfer to our road sports cars. As one of the most competitive series in motor racing, it’s already pushing us to achieve technological excellence. We look forward to continuing to shape the championship and contributing to the advancement of e-mobility.”

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President, Porsche Motorsport said:
“Like Formula E, we want to add innovative technologies and increased sustainability to motorsport – and be at the cutting edge of new developments. The world championship offers a first-class stage for this: racing at the highest level, public interest worldwide and high technological relevance. The knowledge from racing flows directly into our sports cars: motorsport engineers sit shoulder to shoulder with colleagues from road projects. After all, we don’t develop technology for the sake of technology – it has to benefit our customers.”

Pablo Martino, Head of Formula E Championship, FIA said:
"We’re pleased to announce Porsche as the third manufacturer to commit to Formula E’s GEN4 era. Like Nissan and Jaguar whose participation has already been revealed, Porsche has long been synonymous with motor sport heritage and innovation.  We look forward to continuing this journey together with the manufacturers already confirmed and with those still to be announced until at least 2030, as we continue to grow the championship’s exciting momentum and keep building towards the future of electric racing."
This latest announcement of a continued partnership with Porsche highlights Formula E and the FIA’s role as a platform for developing cutting-edge electric vehicle technologies and fostering sustainable practices within the automotive industry. In a long line of latest manufacturer commitments to the GEN4 era, motorsport fans worldwide can prepare for the most exciting era of electric racing yet.

THE TURNS OF TEMPELHOF: FROM RUNWAY TO RACETRACK
Berlin holds the distinction of being the only city to have hosted a race in every Formula E season - a total of 18 races. With Tempelhofer Feld as the host venue for all but one season, the track presents a familiar yet demanding atmosphere for drivers and teams alike, and with the updated layout for Season 10, the possibilities are wide open.

The circuit’s bumpy concrete apron, heightened degradation, and high levels of grip make it a unique test of skill and strategy for competitors. Despite the challenges, the E-Prix has consistently delivered some of the most thrilling action on the Formula E calendar.

The updated anti-clockwise layout introduces changes such as the positioning of the ATTACK MODE activation that now sits on the outside of Turn 2, and a re-configuration of the circuit to a 15-turn layout with additional twists and chicanes.

EIGHT RACES DOWN, EIGHT TO GO
As Season 10 passes its midway point, the second season of the GEN3 era has already shown fierce competition, with the first eight rounds of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship crowning seven different race winners. 11 drivers have celebrated on the podium, and currently, seven different teams are represented in the top 10 of the Drivers’ standings.

Kelvin van der Linde takes the wheel at ABT Cupra, filling in for Nico Müller. Over at Envision Racing, Paul Aron and Joel Eriksson form a fresh driver lineup in place of Buemi and Frijns. Meanwhile, Jordan King finally gets his race start opportunity, stepping in for Nyck De Vries at Mahindra Racing. It's sure to shake up the competition and bring new dynamics to the track.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to China after four seasons away, for Rounds 11 and 12 of the 2024 Shanghai E-Prix, marking the third new host city on the Season 10 calendar.
By: FIA Formula E
May 23, 2024

Shanghai, China - After four seasons away, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to the country where it all began, China, as the all-electric single-sater series gets set for its first visit to Shanghai. 22 drivers prepare to hit the tarmac of the iconic Shanghai International Circuit, May 25th-26th, for Rounds 11 and 12 of Season 10.

As the finale of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship fast-approaches, the competition returns to China for the first time since Season 5. The fourth double-header weekend of Season 10 will be sure to heighten the battle for this year’s World Championship title.

With the first ever race of Formula E happening a decade ago on the streets of Beijing, all eyes will be on the 22 drivers to recreate the excitement of the last ten years in China’s largest city, Shanghai. With China being a world leader in EV mobility and driving technological progress, Shanghai is set to be a truly symbolic destination for Formula E in its tenth anniversary season.

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Formula E, said:

“It is a special honour for Formula E to return to China for the first time since Season 5, especially to an iconic city such as Shanghai. The 2024 Shanghai E-Prix is the perfect way to celebrate ten years as the first all-electric motorsport, as we continue to push boundaries in electric mobility, just as China does in the development and adoption of electric vehicles.

“While racing in Shanghai is highly symbolic for Formula E, it will also be an incredible race weekend for fans. There is a passionate fanbase in the country, and we cannot wait for the fans in Shanghai to experience a completely new style of motor racing at one of the most premier motorsport venues in the world.”

For Formula E’s first visit to Shanghai, notable contenders include Sébastien Buemi, after his past Formula E success in China, he is currently the only driver on the grid to have won twice already in the country. He will also no doubt be eager to secure his first win of the season after earning a podium in Mexico City, in front of a home crowd for Envision Racing.

Another strong contender is António Félix da Costa, who recently claimed a home win for his Tag Heuer Porsche Formula E Team in Berlin less than two weeks ago. Buoyed by this recent success, da Costa will enter the race with renewed confidence despite facing challenges earlier in the season.

Chinese outfit, ERT Formula E Team, have been a part of the championship since Season 1, and after the 2024 Misano E-Prix gave them their best finish in six years, Dan Ticktum and Sergio Sette Camara will also be looking to impress on their team’s home soil.

GEN3 TAKES ON THE TARMAC AT SHANGHAI INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT
For Formula E’s latest venture to China, the championship will be touching down at the iconic Shanghai International Circuit - a premier motorsport facility, known for its unique layout resembling the Chinese character “上” (shang), meaning ‘superior’.

Designed for top-tier motorsport global events, the circuit features a challenging combination of high-speed straights and tight corners, including the iconic loop of Turns 1 and 2. With state-of-the-art facilities, the circuit offers an exceptional experience for teams, media, and spectators.

The clockwise, 3.051km layout is a shortened version of the traditional Grand Prix circuit, which allows for more laps of racing with the added features that make up a thrilling Formula E E-Prix. For example, the positioning of the ATTACK MODE activation will sit on the outside of the long right-hander of Turn 2.

Since its inauguration in 2004, the circuit has hosted iconic races, significantly boosting local tourism and the economy. This also means that it is a venue familiar to some members of the Formula E grid, with many drivers racing there in the past. With an altered layout for Formula E cars, the track presents a familiar yet demanding atmosphere for the teams, with another expected energy-saving brawl to the finish line.

STILL TOO SOON TO CALL? SEASON 10 STANDINGS START TO TAKE SHAPE
As Season 10 heads towards its final few laps, the second season of the GEN3 era has been fiercely competitive. The first ten rounds of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship have seen eight different race winners and eleven drivers on the podium, with seven teams represented in the top ten of the Drivers' standings currently.

As the championship gears up for the final six races, the current standings are as follows: Nick Cassidy of Jaguar TCS Racing leads the pack, closely followed by Pascal Wehrlein of TAG Heuer Porsche. These two are the only drivers with two wins each in Season 10. Oliver Rowland of Nissan, with one win and five additional podiums, is just six points shy of Wehrlein.

2023 World Champion Jake Dennis from Andretti Formula E Team holds fourth place, followed by Mitch Evans of Jaguar TCS Racing and Jean-Éric Vergne of DS PENSKE in fifth and sixth positions, respectively. Maximilian Günther of Maserati MSG Racing and António Félix da Costa of TAG Heuer Porsche are seventh and eighth. Jean-Éric Vergne’s teammate, Stoffel Vandoorne, is in ninth after a season-best performance in Monaco and points in Round 9, and Sam Bird of NEOM McLaren Formula E Team rounds out the top ten.

LOOKING BACK AT ELECTRIC RACING IN CHINA
China holds the distinction of being the first host of a Formula E race back at the 2014 Beijing E-Prix in Season 1. Since then, the championship has also raced on the streets of Hong Kong and the southern city of Sanya, making Season 10’s visit to Shanghai the fourth location in the country.

With seven races across the past three locations, there have been six different Formula E race winners in China, with Lucas di Grassi winning the first-ever Formula E race in Beijing during Season 1 in 2014. Sébastien Buemi secured victories in both the second Beijing race in Season 2 and the third Chinese race held in Hong Kong (Season 3). To this day, he’s the only Formula E winner to have won twice in the country.

In Season 4, Sam Bird and Felix Rosenqvist each claimed a win during the first Chinese double-header in Hong Kong. Season 5 saw Edoardo Mortara triumph in Hong Kong, followed by Jean-Éric Vergne's victory in Sanya two weeks later.
