New Smyrna - Life is good for Milverton, Ontario, Canada native Kyle Steckly, but he has the opportunity to elevate his demeanor a little more with a strong showing in the 2025 ASA STARS National Tour season opener Tuesday night at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.
Rette Jones Racing, the potent and multi-purpose Motorsports operation, will again field a championship effort for Steckly to capitalize on their impressive rookie season on the tour, including winning Tuesday night’s Clyde Hart Memorial 200.
The team has learned immensely together and separately over the last 12 months, which has taken them from contenders to winners. However, with the performance comes pressure — an effect the team gladly welcomes with their No. 30 Ford Mustang.
“I’m really looking forward to my sophomore season in ASA with the RJR Group,” offered Steckly. “I think we can grow from our notebook and come out of the gate as a threat to win races.”
Steckly and Co. will return to New Smyrna Speedway this week, looking for a much calmer weekend than last February. New on the scene, the team had to fight their way into the race through the Last Chance Qualifier and start the race deep in the field in the 31st position.
Patience paid off for Steckly in his ASA STARS National Tour debut. The then-rookie driver fought through the race's attrition and ended the night with a commendable top-10 performance.
This year, Steckly hopes to avoid the drama of an LCQ and have good track position from the drop of the green flag, which will allow his Rette Jones Racing team to pick up their first win since summer at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.
“It’s a tough place to pass and hard on brakes,” said Steckly about New Smyrna. “I need to give ourselves a good starting position, and hopefully, we can make the right adjustments on the car through the race to have enough car left to make a charge at the end.
“I’d love nothing more than to start an important and busy week with my second career ASA win and take that momentum to Daytona International Speedway later in the week.”
Before the concentration shifts entirely to the “World Center of Racing,” Steckly craves having momentum from his full-season ASA championship attack, knowing that what he learned last season will hopefully pay dividends in 2025.
“We learned so much in our rookie season,” added Steckly. “I feel I better understand how to race a super late model. The team has built a notebook, and we have created a great chemistry which will be huge to be successful in 2025.”

As part of his contract extension announced last week with Rette Jones Racing, Steckly will also participate in a limited ARCA Menards Series schedule this season, which includes Saturday afternoon’s Chili’s Ride the ‘Dente 200 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.

Steckly was one of nearly 70 drivers who attended the open practice session at the 2.5-mile superspeedway for the NASCAR-owned touring division last month to earn his superspeedway license.
“There are no words to describe how excited I am about making my ARCA Menards Series debut next weekend at Daytona,” offered Steckly. “I think for any race car driver, their dream is to race at Daytona, and within a very short time, my dream is becoming a reality thanks to Rette Jones Racing and our excellent partners.
My goal is always to go out and win races,” sounded Steckly. “I think, realistically, we can do that at both the ASA race on Tuesday night and the ARCA race on Saturday.
“I’m confident in how we’ve grown in our Super Late Model program and Rette Jones Racing has been running ARCA for many years. I’m looking forward to Daytona; it’s always up in the air on what can happen during the race, but if we put ourselves in the right spot, I think we can be there at the end and contend for a strong finish in my series debut.”
Team co-owner and crew chief Mark Rette concurred.
“We are so ready for the 2025 season,” he said. “Kyle made tremendous progress last season and I am energized about what we can deliver this season. Kyle has experience in the ASA Super Late Model now and should pay huge dividends throughout the season, hopefully bringing us to Victory Lane.
“He is also ready for the next career step, joining the ARCA Menards Series. It’s a busy week for our team, but we are taking competitive cars to the race track, which we hope will allow Kyle to contend for wins on Tuesday night and Saturday afternoon.”

The Chili’s Ride the ‘Dente 200 80 laps | 200 miles) is the first of 20 races on the 2025 ARCA Menards Series schedule. Practice begins Thursday, February 13, from 4:05 p.m. to 4:55 p.m. General Tire group pole qualifying begins on Friday, February 14, at 1:30 p.m. The race is set to take the green flag the following afternoon shortly after 12:00 p.m. ET. The event will be televised live for the first time on FOX, with the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and SiriusXM Satellite Radio (XM channel 391 | online channel 981) handling the radio waves. Mooresville, North Carolina - Rette Jones Racing confirmed today the signing of second-generation driver Kyle Steckly to a multiyear developmental contract that will keep the Milverton, Ontario, Canada native with the team for the foreseeable future.
Steckly, the son of four-time NASCAR Canada Series champion Scott Steckly, will return to compete in a full season of ASA STARS National Tour competition and a limited ARCA Menards Series schedule.
Last year, Rette Jones Racing added the ASA STARS National Tour to its Motorsports platform, allowing Steckly to shine through the year, including an impressive victory in the RedBud 400 at Anderson (Ind.) Speedway and a runner-up championship finish.
With a year under their belts, the Mooresville, N.C.-based team looks to enhance their on-track performance with multiple victories and a goal of capturing the series championship.
“I am incredibly thankful to Rette Jones Racing,” said Steckly. “Not only have Mark (Rette) and Terry (Jones) allowed me to race in the United States, but they have given me the chance to showcase my ability.
“In a very short time, we have built a special relationship while putting together a competitive and winning Late Model team. I am looking forward to the 2024 season and ready to get back to work at New Smyrna Speedway.”

Daytona Beach, Florida – NASCAR today announced that its three national series – the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series – will adjust the practice and qualifying (P&Q) procedures for the 2025 season. The updated P&Q schedule will include more practice time, consistency in procedure across all three series and a return to simplified starting lineup rules. With the exception of the superspeedway events, each qualifying session will be one round, with each vehicle’s starting position determined solely by its qualifying results.
In addition, NASCAR announced that a practice session prior to DAYTONA 500 qualifying has been added to the Daytona International Speedway weekend schedule. The 50-minute pre-qualifying practice is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 10:05 a.m. ET. The annual DAYTONA 500 Media Day will also take place Wednesday, Feb. 12, starting at noon and ending at 7 p.m. ET. DAYTONA 500 Busch Light Pole Award Qualifying will follow at 8:15 p.m. ET.
Next season, FOX Sports will broadcast P&Q for The Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, the DAYTONA 500, the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Raceway, as well as P&Q for the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. Prime Video will broadcast NASCAR Cup Series P&Q for the first half of the season excluding the events outlined above; TNT Sports will broadcast P&Q on Max and truTV for the second half of the NASCAR Cup Series season. Details for NASCAR Xfinity Series P&Q sessions airing on CW platforms will be announced at a later date.

The iconic Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R), a staple of the NASCAR Canada Series, is scheduled for August, while the scenic Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) will host both the season opener in May and the final road-course event of the season in August. The penultimate round of the 2025 season will take place at Delaware Speedway on Saturday evening, promising to attract a large crowd of fans.
NASCAR Canada is thrilled to return to Autodrome Chaudière in May, where last year’s event drew a record-breaking crowd. The series also raced in front of a sold-out audience at Edmonton International Raceway, showcasing incredible support from fans. Florence, South Carolina - Chad Bryant Racing’s Treyten Lapcevich put on a clinic Saturday night at Florence (S.C.) Motor Speedway holding off a hungry pack of challengers, including Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Doug Barnes Jr. to win the prestigious South Carolina 400.
The Canadian-born driver, who also has dual Canadian-American citizenship and drives under the Allrem Racing program, made history on Saturday night by winning that race.
The 250-lap race certainly brought headlines galore, but Lapcevich overcame a mid-race starting position to rocket through the field and earn his young career's most significant Late Model victory.
After winning his qualifying heat earlier in the evening, Lapcevich’s No. 77 Evirum |Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship Chevrolet rolled from the 24th place starting position and quickly went to work driving through the field.
By Lap 50, the zMAX CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car Tour standout had climbed inside the top 15 and continued to post some of the quickest lap times on the track.
Less than 30 laps later, the Canadian had hustled inside the top-10 and quickly caught his competition for the top five. By Lap 85, Lapcevich controlled third, and on a restart at Lap 95, he muscled his No. 77 Evirum |Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship Chevrolet into the race lead.
Behind Lapcevich, Earnhardt, who started last in the field, also showcased a car as quick as the No. 77 Chad Bryant Racing entry, but Lapcevich was able to keep the NASCAR icon behind him at the caution for the halfway break at Lap 125.
On the restart to kick off the second half, Lapcevich quickly escaped the scene of any potential challenge for the control of the race lead.
Despite a couple of late-race restarts and a shift in challengers as Earnhardt retired from the race with a fuel pump issue about 30 laps from the checkered flag – none of that mattered.
Barnes, who inherited the runner-up spot, could not track down Lapcevich in race traffic, ensuring the 20- year-old impressive drive to make history and become the first international driver to win the South Carolina 400 in its 32 years of existence.
With his triumph, Lapcevich’s North of the Border victory returned Chad Bryant Racing to Victory Lane at Florence Motor Speedway as victors of the South Carolina 400 for the third time after 2024 NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series champion Ty Majeski captured the crown back-to-back in 2020 and 2021.
“It’s all thanks to the Chad Bryant Racing team,” said Lapcevich in Victory Lane. “They brought me an awesome car. All weekend, I haven’t been too confident, honestly. Chad (Bryant) and the team kept me in this.

“I’ve got a lot of people watching back home in Canada, so I appreciate the support. I appreciate Florence Motor Speedway for putting this awesome event on. I can’t believe it, honestly.”
After his triumphant capture of the NASCAR Canada Series title in 2023, Lapcevhich shifted his focus to the CARS Tour and ventured into some marquee Late Model Stock events in the Southeastern United States, showcasing his versatile skills.
The path of his unique journey paid dividends on Saturday by adding his most prominent Late Model win to his resume.
“I’ve been pretty lucky with the opportunities I’ve been given,” continued Lapcevich. “My parents started me out in this racing thing, this journey. There have been some highs and some lows, and we’ve had some people come on board and really push us to the next level.”
Based on how the weekend was going before the green flag dropped in the iconic event, Lapcevich wasn’t sure Victory Lane was possible.
“If you had told me this morning we’d end up in victory lane, I would have told you that you’re crazy,” added Lapcevich.
“They believed in me; I believe in them. A whole lot of trust built there, and we were able to get it done.”
Lapcevich’s plans for the 2025 racing season will be announced in due course.
