TORONTO, Ont. — For almost as long as there have been cars on the road, enthusiasts have been tuning them up, adding some beef and tricking them out in an attempt to be the fastest down the street.

For the second year in a row, Performance Auto & Sound Magazine (PASMAG) will be celebrating these custom creations at the Canadian International AutoShow with Custom Car Battlegrounds: AutoShow Edition, a competition for modern muscle car, hot rod and lowrider enthusiasts. Website visitors will play a key role in determining the eight vehicles that will be showcased at the AutoShow in a special, bracket-style online knockout competition.

“The care and work that goes into every custom build is commendable, and those investing the time, effort and money deserve some recognition for their work,” says Tim Rutledge, Publisher of PASMAG. “Bringing Tuner Battlegrounds to the AutoShow was immensely successful for our Canadian fans last year, and we are excited to see the competition for votes in our second year as we launch Custom Car Battlegrounds. It is exciting to put the onus of deciding the winner on the automotive enthusiast, fans, patrons and the friends and families of the competitors.”

Located on the 700 level of the south building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Custom Car Battlegrounds puts a $3,500 cash award on the table for the winning entry, plus passes to the AutoShow and runner-up up awards for the second and third place finishers of $1,000 and $500 respectively. Silverwax, a leader in automotive detailing solutions and products, returns for a second year to provide professional detailing products for the top winners of Custom Car Battlegrounds.

The competition is open to anyone owning a modified vehicle or the builders who modify them.

Online voting will begin January 29th until only eight vehicles remain. With those finalists on display at the AutoShow, voting will continue onsite until the Grand Champion is crowned on February 24th.

Custom Car Battlegrounds is the latest competition from the publishers of Performance Auto & Sound (PASMAG). Celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2019, PASMAG has been a leading curator of modified car culture in print, online and social channels for more than two decades. Building off the success of the first six seasons of Tuner Battlegrounds, Custom Car Battlegrounds expands the field of cars and owners who can compete for votes and the chance to be featured in print and online.

CELEBRATING CANADA'S MILITARY VEHICLES
Marking 75 years since D-Day with WWII-era vehicles on display

TORONTO, Ont. — In recognition of Canada's proud military history, the Canadian International AutoShow is showcasing a collection of new and historic military vehicles used by our service men and women.

Marking 75 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy and the Road to Rome, key pieces of military hardware that were crucial to our war effort in the Second World War will be in the spotlight, complemented by a display of vehicles currently used by the Canadian Armed Forces. The installation is courtesy the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum — home to Canada's largest collection of operational historical military vehicles including tanks, trucks, Jeeps and more — and 32 Canadian Brigade Group.

"Canada has a rich military history, with some iconic and unique vehicles that have been used in battle and peacekeeping missions," says Matthew Rutledge, Operations Manager at the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum. "We are excited to showcase at the AutoShow some vehicles used by today's Canadian Forces alongside their historical predecessors."

Among the vehicles that will be on display are:

  • M4 Sherman Tank — The iconic widely used tank for the Allies of the Second World War proved to be reliable, available in large quantities and reasonably cheap to produce.
  • Universal Carrier — Also known as a Bren Gun Carrier, this is a light armoured track vehicle used during the Second World War.
  • Chevrolet Radio Van — Locally built in Oshawa by General Motors with serial number 001 and deployed with Allied Forces worldwide.
  • Willys MB Jeep — A veteran of Italy during the Second World War and steeped in history around how it returned to Canada when most of the war equipment was left behind in Europe.
  • Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle (TAPV) — Designed to protect troops against landmines and IEDs, the TAPV has a V-shaped hull with blast absorbing belly armour and vented wheel wells. It represents the most modern vehicle deployed within the Canadian Armed Forces.
  • Navistar 7400 Medium Support Vehicle System — This medium-support vehicle provides lift and logistical support on the ground, and transports equipment and supplies to where they are needed — both at home and abroad.
  • Mercedes-Benz Light Utility Vehicle Wheeled G Wagon — Used primarily by operationally tasked field units and training establishments, the G Wagon provides tactical transport in the fields of command and control, liaison, reconnaissance and military police.
  • There will also be a display of weapons, including a .50 cal heavy machine gun that will be set up in a simulated and camouflaged machine gun trench. The exhibit will also feature a military recruitment booth to share with show-goers what a life in the armed forces has to offer.
  • Located in Oshawa Ontario, the Ontario Regiment RCAC Museum is home to Canada's largest collection of operational historical military vehicles.

Unique to this collection is that all historic vehicles are maintained and fully operational, allowing the public to experience the sights, sounds, and even the smells, of history.

The Regiments of 32 Canadian Brigade Group trace a direct lineage back to the 1790s, where military units built the first roads, bridges and buildings in Toronto.

As the population increased and became more diverse, so did the army within its midst. 32 Canadian Brigade Group is now made up of Canadian men and women of all orientations, from more than 90 countries and nearly every ethnic and religious background.

The unit reflects the diversity of the very city it helped build.

The vehicular tribute to Canada's military history and current capabilities can be found on the 800 level in the South Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

TORONTO, Ont. — One of the world's most mysterious and powerful hypercars is making its North American debut at Toronto's Canadian International AutoShow next month.

With the top-end model boasting a V16 engine and an amazing 5,007 horsepower, the Devel Sixteen has had car enthusiasts on edge. The prototype of the production model was first seen in Dubai in 2017 and it has also been showcased in Paris, but never on this side of the Atlantic. The car will be a centerpiece in the AutoShow's ever-popular Auto Exotica feature and Devel Motors co-founder and car developer Majid Al Attar will be a featured guest speaker a special 'Luxury and Supercar Forum' at the AutoShow in Toronto on February 13th.

"The Devel Sixteen is catching eyes around the world, including those of Toronto's hip hop megastar Drake," says Mr. Al Attar. "We are looking forward to bringing the Devel Sixteen to Toronto as we get ready to put the car into production later this year."

The Devel Sixteen will come in three models. A V8 model will be available for an estimated $1.6 million, a mid-level V16 pushing 3,000 horsepower will retail for $1.8 million and the massive V16 with 5,007 horsepower will go for $2.2 million.

Devel Motors was founded by three brothers from Dubai who share a passion for cars. From the outset, they wanted to create something unique and powerful, with visions of a car inspired by the look of a jet fighter.

"We were working to have the world's most powerful production car," says Mr. Al Attar. "There wasn't a V8 that could give us the power we wanted to produce, so we started working to create our own engine."
