Montmagny, Quebec – The 2024 NASCAR Canada Series presented by Pinty’s and Evirum season came to an exciting close this Sunday at Autodrome Montmagny. The Allrem Racing Evirum/BKFC team, along with driver Steve Côté, entered the final race with high hopes of landing on the podium. However, mechanical issues cut their race short, forcing the early retirement of the #29 car. Despite this setback, the team celebrated a significant achievement as Steve Côté was officially named Rookie of the Year for the 2024 season.

"We’re disappointed not to have secured a podium finish in this last race because we truly believed it was within reach. But winning the Rookie of the Year title is a huge accomplishment," said Côté. "This season was far from easy, so to take the rookie title really highlights the strength and dedication of the Allrem Racing team. We're a young team, but we consistently found ways to stand out throughout the season."

In preparation for the final race, Côté and the Allrem Racing team had completed test sessions at Montmagny Speedway, arriving well-prepared with valuable track knowledge. Côté posted impressive times during practice, ranking 6th and 13th, and followed up with a 5th place qualifying run.

Right from the start of the 250-lap XPN race, Côté was among the frontrunners, suggesting a strong finish was on the horizon. For much of the race, the Allrem Racing Evirum/BKFC driver maintained the second-fastest pace on track. "It was our best race of the year," he explained. "We were running with the speed of the 2nd and 3rd position cars, and we really believed a podium finish was in sight. Unfortunately, both the differential and the alternator gave out at the same time. We tried everything, but the stars just weren’t aligned for us at this race."

"This season has been a real learning experience, filled with highs and lows," said Jonathan Côté, crew chief for Allrem Racing. "But we’ve gained valuable lessons that we’ll carry forward into the future. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished, especially earning the Rookie of the Year title."

Erik de Pokomandy, President of Allrem Sports & Entertainment, praised the team’s remarkable effort throughout the season. "For a young team like ours, what we’ve achieved in such a short time is extraordinary. We competed with the top five teams, who have years of experience behind them, for nearly the entire season. Steve Côté and the entire team, led by Jonathan Côté, worked tirelessly and made great strides in developing the car throughout the year, always with the same ambition and determination to win," de Pokomandy noted.

At the final event, the Allrem Racing team also made a special gesture by surprising a young boy and his father, chosen randomly among the crowd, with an invitation to watch the race from the team’s pit box. Equipped with headsets, they listened in on the team’s communications, standing alongside the crew chief and the president of Allrem Sports & Entertainment – an unforgettable experience for the lucky guests who travelled from Chicoutimi for the event.

Although the NASCAR Canada season has come to a close, Allrem Racing will continue their competitive efforts in the United States with driver Treyten Lapcevich in the zMAX CARS Tour series. Treyten is set to compete in the Valleystar Credit Union 300 of the NASCAR Late Model series this Saturday, September 28, at the historic Martinsville Speedway in Virginia. Trois-Rivières, Quebec - The 2024 NASCAR Canada season ended this past Sunday at Autodrome Montmagny. This thirteenth and final event of the season was also a premiere for the series, which had never before held a race on this oval in Eastern Quebec. In front of a packed grandstands, three-time series champion Louis-Philippe Dumoulin finished the race in eighth place after having to start last. This spectacular comeback concludes a season that was sometimes difficult but nevertheless crowned with a Top 5 in the final championship standings, out of more than 60 drivers.

“Montmagny is a site that I knew for testing sessions, but it was a first for me and several series’ drivers to compete there. I think the NASCAR Canada series put on an excellent show and for me, it was interesting. The bump at the exit of turn 4 was a bit of a worry but it didn’t stop me from testing several different racing lines. I also really liked the atmosphere, the fans on site. Managing to hoist the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare | Omnifab car to eighth place overall after having to start last is also a great satisfaction,” explains Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

After testing different settings in practice and then in qualifying, the Dumoulin Compétition team decided to work on the car after qualifying session, which automatically meant having to start from the back of the pack for the race. A wise decision, as Louis-Philippe Dumoulin explains: “We tried different settings in practice and qualifying but without being able to say WOW!, to put our finger on the optimal settings.” To fix this understeer problem that was affecting me, working on the car after qualifying was the right solution. So, I started last but I was quickly able to gain places when the race started."

Even before the halfway point of the race, the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare | Omnifab car had gained ten positions and was in the Top 10 as soon as the competition break occurred at the 130th of the 250 laps. In the second half of the race, Dumoulin fought at the front. "I never gave up, in every corner, every overtaking. I tried different lines. I think I'm the driver who went the most on the inside line, close to the wall, but it paid off," LP Dumoulin mentions.

This eighth place allows Louis-Philippe Dumoulin to finish the championship fifth in the standings. "It wasn't an easy season. After 5 races, I had four Top 5s and I thought I could do even better in the second half of the season, but we encountered more difficulties at that time. I had several good races, I fought at the front eight times in thirteen events and we finally collected the Top 5 in the championship. Under the circumstances, all the team members gave their best. I am proud of them, I thank them. It was still a great season, overall!” concludes the driver of the #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare | Omnifab car.

DJ Kennington, driver of the #17 Castrol EDGE Dodge, capped off the 2024 NASCAR Canada Series season with a strong performance at Autodrome Montmagny this past Sunday. Showing competitive speed in practice, Kennington qualified 13th for the 250-lap event, positioning himself for a challenging race on the 3/8-mile track.

In the early stages, Kennington found it difficult to gain ground due to a tight race setup that hindered his ability to make moves. The # 17 Castrol EDGE Dodge driver made a pit stop during a caution period just prior to midway to make adjustments. On the restart Kennington was collected in a multicar collision and suffered a flat right rear tire and body damage. The #17 team acted quickly, making the necessary tire change and returned him to the fight.

The Castrol team made additional adjustments during the scheduled mid-race break for fuel and tires that proved effective, and Kennington charged hard through the field in the second half of the race. Despite the setbacks, he battled his way to a ninth-place finish by the time the checkered flag flew.

With this tenth, top ten finish of the year, Kennington solidified his position in the NASCAR Canada Series, finishing the season fourth in the overall championship standings.

DJ Kennington Quotes:   "We had some tough breaks today, but this team never gave up and we were able to fight our way back into the top ten. This Castrol team is the best group of guys you could ever have, I’m super proud of their effort all season. I’m so thankful for the great support we get from Castrol and Wakefield Canada and of course all the fans. We made some good strides this year and we’ve already started making plans for the off season to be even better next year”.

A strong season with six wins saw Kevin Lacroix take the runner up spot in this years NASCAR Canada Series. (Photo-Matthew Manor)

September 23, 2024

Montmagny, Quebec – Autodrome Montmagny hosted the final NASCAR Canada event last Sunday, where Kevin Lacroix delivered a commanding performance, securing his 6th win of the season. He also clinched the Vice-Champion title, capping off an almost flawless season.

The NAPA Racing team enjoyed a remarkable season, consistently finishing in the Top 2, with the exception of two unfortunate retirements and a 7th place finish at Ohsweken. These setbacks proved costly in the championship fight, leaving Lacroix just 10 points shy of the title.

This marked a historic first for the NASCAR Canada series at Autodrome Montmagny, a 3/8-mile oval set along the Saint Lawrence River. Lacroix clocked the 8th and 2nd fastest times during the practice sessions. In qualifying, he posted the 2nd best time, earning him a front-row start for les 250 tours XPN race, though he started on the outside.

From the moment the green flag dropped, Lacroix, in the #74 Quick Strut / NAPA Dodge, was on the offensive, challenging Alex Labbé while defending his position against Raphaël Lessard and Andrew Ranger. The drivers swapped places within the Top 4 throughout the early stages, but as the race progressed, Lacroix fought his way back into 2nd place. After more than 80 laps, he finally seized the lead.

The race was interrupted by multiple cautions, which could have worked against Lacroix, but he skillfully maintained his position at the front. The closing laps were particularly thrilling, with Will Larue battling fiercely with Lacroix right up to the checkered flag.

In the end, Lacroix emerged victorious, claiming his 6th win of the season and the first-ever NASCAR Canada victory at this track.

“It was a fantastic race,” said Kevin Lacroix. “But it’s a bittersweet victory because I didn’t win the title. We were consistent all season, except for two pieces of bad luck that cost us the championship. We were the strongest team out there, and we’ll be back next year to take the title.”

Marc-Antoine Camirand was crowned the 2024 NASCAR Canada Series champion on Sunday.
By: NASCAR Canada
September 23, 2024

Montmagny, Quebec – The Autodrome Montmagny hosted a spectacular finale this Sunday, where Kevin Lacroix won the race, but Marc-Antoine Camirand secured the ultimate title of NASCAR Canada Series presented by Pinty's and Evirum Champion.

He won the Championship in front of thousands of spectators who flocked to the oval located by the Saint-Lawrence River. The driver of the No. 96 GM Paillé Chevrolet needed to finish 15th or better to claim the title, which he achieved.

However, it was a rollercoaster weekend for Marc-Antoine Camirand, who had laid the fastest lap times in the first two practice sessions of the day. It was ultiamtely Alex Labbé in the No.36 Malois Transport/VR Victoriaville/Lussier Chevrolet that took the E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award, with Kevin Lacroix’s No. 74 Quick Strust / NAPA Dodge in second place. The championship leader would start from the 8th position for the 250 XPN Laps the following day.

On Sunday, the tension was high, with Labbé looking to convert his pole position into victory, Camirand having everything to lose, and Lacroix having everything to gain.
From the start of the race, Lacroix tried to seize the lead from Labbé, who remained firm in place. Raphaël Lessard joined the fray in his No. 7 Larue Industrial Snow Blowers Chevrolet, successfully making his move. Kevin Lacroix was pushed to 3rd place early on and had to fend off Andrew Ranger’s No. 27 GM Paillé Chevrolet and Steve Côté’s No. 29 Evirum / BKFC Chevrolet. However, Lacroix fought back to reclaim his lost position.

Meanwhile, Camirand was working hard to move up the field. With about 185 laps remaining, he was already in 3rd place, behind Labbé and Lacroix, who had a half-lap lead on him. Shortly after, Lacroix managed to take control of the race, comfortably settling into the lead position.

A caution with less than 140 laps remaining bunched up the field. Andrew Ranger, who was then the last driver on the lead lap, took advantage of the opportunity to pit for adjustments.

During the restart, a major crash involving Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, Andrew Ranger, Jean-Philippe Bergeron, Simon Dion-Viens, Glenn Styres, and Dave Coursol caused a red flag, halting the drivers on the track. Coursol was the most affected in this pile-up. He was evaluated at the track’s medical center as a precaution and was released immediately.

After the restart, Alex Guénette entered the Top 5 in his No. 39 Casino Grand Royal Wolinak/DLGL Chevrolet, as did Will Larue in the No. 45 Larue Industrial Snow Blowers Chevrolet.

Action resumed with the mid-race restart as Frédérik Ladouceur, in the No. 51 L'Entrepôt Pièces d'Auto/Ray Jr. Investments Dodge, collided with Steve Côté’s Chevrolet, causing a long caution. Ladouceur, supported by D.J. Kennington’s team, managed to pit several times for repairs on his car.

During the restart with 103 laps to go, Lacroix and Camirand found themselves on the front row. However, Lacroix won this battle, while Camirand defended his position from Jason Hathaway’s No. 3 ASSA ABLOY/Accentra/Leland/HGC Chevrolet, which was in 3rd place. Further back in the field, there was a fierce battle between Theetge and Guénette for a spot in the Top 5.

Theetge targeted Labbé, who was in 4th place, with a mission in mind. With 50 laps to go, Will Larue positioned himself on Lacroix’s rear bumper, with Camirand in 3rd place and Mathieu Kingsbury in 4th in the No. 9 Duroking/Boisclair & Fils/Paillé Chevrolet.

The final laps were filled with action, matching the intensity of the rest of the season. Larue pressured Lacroix, while Theetge moved up to 3rd place, leaving Kingsbury, Guénette, and Camirand to battle behind.

With 20 laps to go, Camirand could breathe a sigh of relief as Hathaway’s retirement secured his 2024 championship title, as only 15 cars were remaining on the track. Up front, Larue put immense pressure on Lacroix but couldn’t pass the NAPA car, which achieved the first NASCAR Canada victory at the Autodrome Montmagny. Alex Guénette finished in 3rd place, with Mathieu Kingsbury and Donald Theetge completing the Top 5.

Marc-Antoine Camirand was crowned the 2024 Champion by finishing in 6th place, with Labbé trailing. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, D.J. Kennington, and Raphaël Lessard rounded out the Top 10.

“We had six wins this season,” said Kevin Lacroix, race winner and Vice-Champion 2024. “I think we were dominant and the best team all year. We had some misfortunes that pushed us out of the championship. It’s a great win today, but at the same time, it’s bittersweet to finish second in the championship. However, we end the season with three consecutive wins, so we’ll try to continue like this in 2025.”

“I have immense respect for Ranger and Lacroix,” said the 2024 Champion. “We had a great battle until the end. This last race was special. We came to Montmagny with a certain lead, but not enough to be comfortable. There was certainly a little extra stress, but we raced smartly. We had a good car in the first half of the race, then struggled with tires in the second half. We managed to keep it together and finish in 6th place. We worked hard all season with an exceptional sponsor. Now that we have two championships, we want a third!”

Steve Côté had a tough race as he was forced to retire. However, he was among the leaders for much of the race. Nevertheless, he earned the Rookie of the Year title.
