The NTN Ulimate Bearing Experience 250 Will Signal The Start Of The 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s Series Season.

Lachenaie, Quebec – Canadian driver Alex Tagliani, of Lachenaie, QC, is excited to finally get back into the race car. After a long, cold, and snowy winter Tag is looking forward to seeing everyone in the NASCAR Paddock. Tagliani has raced in NASCAR for a long time and considers his competitors not only friends but family.

Saturday, May 13th. Sunset Speedway, Barrie, Ontario
Green Flag At 7pm

Tag is excited to have long-time partner St. Hubert back for another season and he is also excited that equally long-time partner La Petite Bretonne will be offering the ‘TAG ON THE GO’ cookie at St. Hubert locations. NTN is coming on board this season and this makes Tagliani very happy. Tag had a relationship with NTN in his early days while racing in the Formula Atlantic Series. Qwick Wick is back again this season and they are excited to offer the Tag 4-Pack. This is a great deal for those camping at the race track. Genatec will also join Tagliani’s team this season and Tag couldn’t be happier. Genatec is an amazing IT Company that provides an incredible service to the consumer.

As for the upcoming season, Tag had this to say. “The team has worked incredibly hard over the winter. They have put in many long hours ironing out all the bugs. It’s no secret that we have struggled a bit since we moved from the Goodyear Tire to the General Tire. However, we have always ended close to the top 3 each season. This year will be better. Scott and the entire team at 22Racing provide the best equipment in the series and I’m confident we will be competing for a championship in September at Delaware Speedway”.

Tagliani will sport another new livery this season which he considers will be a fan favorite. There is also the possibility that Tag will reveal one or two other schemes this year, so stay tuned.

Tagliani wants to thank everyone from sponsors, partners, competitors, and most importantly the fans for all their support. Tag has always said auto racing is not a single-person sport. It is the ultimate team sport that requires incredible dedication and determination from everyone involved. “I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series and I look forward to the best season yet”.

The NTN Ultimate Bearing Experience 250 from Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, near Barrie, Ontario will take place on Saturday, May 13th. Green flag at 7pm.

The 2023 NASCAR Pinty's Series gets underway this weekend at Sunset Speedway.
By: NASCAR Pinty's Series
May 11, 2023

With the dawn of a new NASCAR Pinty's season, comes 14 new opportunities for drivers to write their way into the history books.

Last year was the first cross country season since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the series made a splash at every track they visited.

Two new venues were added to the schedule including the much-anticipated inaugural dirt race at Ohsweken Speedway. The series also visited Eastbound International Speedway on the island of ewfoundland and Labrador, which required a 16-hour long ferry ride through the Atlantic Ocean.

There were a record-tying eight different winners in 13 races. It was the fourth time - and first since 2018 – that the feat was accomplished.

There were also three first-time winners in 2022, also tying the series record. The new winners were 18 (Treyten Lapcevich), 26 (Alex Guenette) and 29 (Brandon Watson) at the time of their first win, showcasing the series influx of young talent. The season also saw 16 new drivers make their debut, the most since 2011.

An increase in car counts brought the average field size up to 23.6 cars, the highest since 2013 and sixth-largest in series history. Overall, thirteen drivers completed the full schedule, the highest number since 2009.

Building off the momentum of the 2022 season, fans should once again expect to be treated to side-by-side racing at the top racetracks in Canada, dramatic finishes, new drivers, fan-favorites, and at the end of it all, a season to remember.

Camirand Looks to go Back-to-Back

In the history of the NASCAR Pinty‘s Series, no driver has won back-to-back championships. Marc-Antoine Camirand wants to be the first.

Last season he became the seventh different champion over the series' 16-year history and in that time no driver has ever gone two in a row.

“It’s another challenge for us,” Camirand said. “We know this series is really competitive so to do it again this year will be hard to do. But that’s definitely the plan, to try and win a championship again in 2023.”

Last year the 44-year-old won a career-best three races while driving for his own team with long-time sponsor - GM Paillé Racing Team. He also picked up nine top fives, 11 top 10s, two E3 Spark Plug Pole awards and led 803 laps, the second highest in series history.

“The offseason was very busy, we‘ve built another chassis and we‘ve prepped the other chassis to get ready for the first race of the season,” Camirand said. “We‘re in a lot better position than the same spot last year.

Veterans vs. Young Guns

As the NASCAR Pinty's Series continues to grow, so does the competition. While the seasoned veterans try to claim dominance, several young drivers are looking to establish themselves this year.

Alex Tagliani and Kevin Lacroix are both on the hunt for their maiden championships while Andrew Ranger and L.P. Dumoulin look to tie Scott Steckly with their fourth title (the most in series history). D.J. Kennington is chasing his third.

Treyten Lapcevich, Brandon Watson and Alex Guenette, all reached Victory Lane last year. Lapcevich won the season opener at Sunset and the inaugural race on dirt. Watson, who had a dominant season finally got his first win in the season finale at Delaware Speedway. Guenette, who was part-time, won at the historic Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières and will now run full-time with Ed Hakonson Racing in the iconic No. 3 Chevrolet.

Josten's Rookie of the Year Contender, Thomas Nepveu will be making his series debut at Sunset alongside sophomore teammate J.P. Bergeron.

Kyle Steckly, son of four-time series champion Scott Steckly, will also make a handful of starts, beginning this weekend.

Josh Collins Racing Joins the Series

A new team will debut in the NASCAR Pinty's Series this weekend – Josh Collins Racing from Newfoundland and Labrador will make the journey across five provinces to take part in the season opener.

Team namesake, Josh Collins, along with Brandon McFarlane, will both race part-time at the oval events this year.

Joining them for 2023 is Newfoundland-based transportation company Oceanex.

“We have a newly branded team effort this season that brings new excitement and growth opportunities for the team, and I’m looking forward to getting the season started and showcasing our speed,” said team co-owner Josh Collins. “We’ve been putting in countless hours in the off-season to put this expanded two-car team effort together."

Doug Gonder Named Series Director

Ahead of the 2023 season, NASCAR announced the promotion of Doug Gonder to the helm of Series Director.

The London, Ontario native, first joined NASCAR as an official in 2012 focusing on technical inspection, including pit road, templates, car and engine. He was promoted to assistant series director in 2022.

Prior to joining NASCAR, Gonder worked as an official in the ARCA Menards Series and at Delaware Speedway, where he started his career as a race official in 2005.

He previously served as assistant series director under Cherie Putnam, who retired at the end of last season.

NASCAR Pinty's Series etc.

The 2023 NASCAR Pinty’s season is ready set to break records again. The 14-race schedule is the most events ever seen on the series calendar, with the addition of a second race at Ohsweken Speedway. The series will celebrate it’s 200th race at that event on Tuesday, August 15th.

The platform currently remains in its free-preview phase, so fans will be able to watch the NTN Ultimate Bearing Experience 25o free this weekend.

Trois-Rivières, Quebec – The 2023 NASCAR Pinty's Series season kicks off this Saturday, May 13 in Ontario at Sunset Speedway in Innisfil, north of Toronto. At the wheel of his #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin is eager to begin the competition, with an already established goal: to win a fourth championship Series’ title.

Event:
NTN Ultimate Bearing Experience 250

Track:
Sunset Speedway (Ontario) - May 13, 2023

Broadcast:
TSN app | TSN.ca | RDS (tape delayed) | FloRacing (USA)

Race
7:00 PM E.T. – nascar.ca/race-center/

2023 marks LP's fifteenth season in the Canadian NASCAR Top series, the twelfth full-time and with the partnership of WeatherTech Canada. “Although I am an experienced driver in the series, each time a new season begins, the excitement is at its highest level. The work done before a racing season is always important and our entire team in the #47 car WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare is full of confidence,” says Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

“The 2022 season was positive in many aspects but it did not fully meet our expectations in terms of results. We can’t wait to reconnect with victory, with the podium and to fight for a new title” adds the three times series’ champion. “I want to be in a position to win that fourth title at the end of the season. This is the main objective. To do this, you have to be conservative when the opportunity arises but also take the chance to win races. We must be at the forefront every time,” he adds.

For Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, in addition to pure competition, setting records is also one of the goals: “I want more victories, titles, I work hard for that”. With 14 races (a record for the series) on the calendar for the 2023 season, strategy will also be decisive. The native of Trois-Rivières is fully aware of this: “we know our strengths and our weaknesses. On some tracks, we escaped victory in the past, but we know why. It’s therefore a very positive element because we can work to improve constantly. Winning on as many different tracks is very rewarding and there are events on the calendar that I would really like to win this year. I am thinking in particular of Toronto race where I won in Formula 1600 but not yet in NASCAR. It would be a great gift for WeatherTech Canada, whose Canadian headquarters are in Burlington, near Toronto.”

Back on victory circle at Sunset Speedway

The oval track of Sunset Speedway is well known to the driver of car #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare. Winner of this first event of the season in 2020, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was among the victory contenders last year, before a technical problem occurred. "I was third on the grid last year there and won there in 2020. It's a track that I really like, probably one of my favorite ovals. It’s often a race with an unpredictable end because depending on you have a restart on the inside or outside lane, you can win or lose several positions in the last laps.

“We are going to Sunset Speedway with good data, car #47 WeatherTech Canada | Groupe Bellemare is ready. I approach this inaugural race with confidence. We are going to test this Wednesday at the Autodrome Chaudière, it will be our final private test before this first event” concludes Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

Steckly will not only be competing on the oval tracks this summer, he will make his debut turning left and right at Toronto Indy and CTMP in the fall. I want nothing more than to go out and win a race in the #22 with 22 Racing. That’s our goal and I’m confident in our team and the APC/ Pennzoil Camaro,” states Steckly.
