Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia – Collingwood, Ont. rookie Pro Superbike rider Ben Young turned some heads this past weekend, and it wasn’t due to the new mustache he was sporting. During his first-ever visit to Atlantic Motorsport Park (AMP) he not only set the second fastest time in the Dalton Timmis Insurance Top Qualifier SuperPole shootout he earned back-to-back third place finishes during the Atlantic Canada stop of the MOPAR Canadian Superbike Championship tour.
On Thursday evening Young was a guest along with fellow CSBK riders at a Meet The Racers event hosted by series and event sponsor Pro Cycle at their brand new facility in Dartmouth N.S. After an evening of music, food, bikes and a few laughs it was time to get to work.
During Friday’s Dalton Timmis Insurance Top Qualifier SuperPole shootout Young set the second fastest time of a 1:08.861 aboard his #86 Tim Horton’s / Scot-Build Developments / BMW Motorrad BMW S1000RR placing him on the front row for the weekend’s doubleheader round at Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia. For his efforts Young received a $500 cheque from Dalton Timmis Insurance along with three points in the Pro Superbike standings.
In the first Pro Superbike feature race of the doubleheader round he initially led the chase of the current MOPAR CSBK Champion. However, on lap four the #42 machine got past Young in dramatic fashion. The two front-runners wanting to challenge the leader battled side-by-side for second spot through the hairpin in turn 9 before Young would unwillingly lose the position to the #42 machine. Young, now in third, and the second place rider were unable to put together a formidable challenge for the lead. Young would secure his third straight podium finish with a 3rd.
“We have a few changes in mind that we’ll try to improve the set-up for tomorrow’s race and I hope to get a better start as well.” said Young
Starting from second on the grid in Sunday’s feature Pro Superbike race the 23-year-old realized today’s weather was going to add another element for all the competitors to manage. A light rain was falling but not hard enough to make it necessary to change over to the Dunlop rain tires but enough produce potentially slick conditions.
Trying to match his explosive holeshot that took him to the lead in Saint-Eustache, Young got a solid start and was part of the lead battle making challenges whenever the opportunity presented itself. At the halfway point of the race Young encountered issues with rear grip and started to lose ground. The pilot of #86 Tim Horton’s / Scot-Build Developments / BMW Motorrad BMW S1000RR would secure his fourth consecutive podium finish crossing the start/finish line in 3rd.
“We gambled on different tire pleasures for today's race so that may have contributed to rear grip issues we had later on in the race.” said Young “There’s no way I could have done this well here at AMP without Willie and Scott! Their outstanding knowledge and commitment in setting up the BMW S1000RR has been crucial to the team’s progress this season.”
Young maintains third place in the Pro Superbike point standings with 186 heading to one of the most anticipated rounds on the CSBK tour at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He’s also extended his lead in the Brooklin Cycle Racing Pro Rookie of the Year point standings.

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park sets the stage for rounds 6 and 7 of the national MOPAR Canadian Superbike road racing series – August 19 - 21, 2016. Additionally this doubleheader round features the 10th Annual BMW Motorrad Days 2016.
