DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team began the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series annual trek through western Canada with a strong result. Saturday night at Edmonton International Raceway Kennington was near the front of the field for much of the race and captured a fourth place finish.

During the afternoon practice sessions Kennington was pleased with how well the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge performed and posted the fifth best qualifying time. “We were really solid from the first lap we turned in the afternoon” said Kennington. “I felt really good heading into the race” he added.

When the green flag waved for the 300-lap feature Kennington maintained touch with the leaders for much of the early going. The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge began to drop back a little around the 100-lap mark. “The track changed as the temperature cooled down and the car was a little tight” he explained.

With a scheduled competition caution period at the midpoint of the race the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team used the opportunity to make handling adjustments, add fuel and take on fresh tires. “The car was definitely better in the second half and it was up to me to move forward” stated the driver.

Using a couple of late restarts to his advantage Kennington put on a charge in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and crossed the finish line with a fourth place result. “We’re definitely gaining on it” he said afterwards. “The car was good right from the start, it got a little tough a couple of times getting caught on the outside, especially on some of the restarts, but we had a good race and that’s thanks to the hard work of this whole team” he added.

DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will return to action this coming Wednesday July 15th at Auto Clearing Speedway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
