DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team have worked countless hours this season to achieve the performance level they expected. In recent weeks they’ve made progress and took another big step forward during round number nine of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series this past weekend at Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, NS.

During the two afternoon practice sessions Kennington posted some of the quickest lap times in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and felt very comfortable heading into qualifying. “It was the best I’ve felt about the car this season” Kennington stated. “The teams hard work was showing results”.

Kennington blistered a lap around the 1/3-mile, high banked oval in 14.429 seconds for an average speed of 83.083MPH. “That sure felt good” said the driver afterwards. “But we also knew we had a long race ahead of us and needed to be ready,” he added.

When the green flag waved on the 300-lap event Kennington would lead the first dozen laps before surrendering the top spot briefly. After moving back in front the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge driver looked to settle into a steady race pace. However that would only last for a few laps.

With the race not 40 laps old suddenly the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge was slowing on course. “Seemed like the car slowed a bit a lap before and then all of a sudden it slowed a lot” said the exasperated driver. “We suffered a big mechanical failure and had no drive. I just hate it for all the guys who worked so hard, our sponsors and for the great fans that were here to see us put on a show, but we’ll regroup and be back again in a couple weeks.

DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team return to action in two weeks as part of the NASCAR Truck Series Weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
