Alex Tagliani to compete in four races this weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park road course
Montreal, Quebec - Alex Tagliani will be a busy driver this weekend competing in four races at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in Bowmanville, Ontario. Tagliani will repeat his experience from earlier this month at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières where he competed in two series, but this time he will pull triple duty. In addition to driving his NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (NCATS) No. 18 EpiPen/CGI/CanTorque Chevrolet in round 10, the Terrebonne, Quebec driver will also be behind the wheel of the No. 75 Fast Wheels Ford Mustang Boss 302 in rounds 11 and 12 of the Canadian Touring Car Championship (CTCC). Finally, Tagliani will also compete in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event with Brad Keselowski Racing.
"I will be a very busy guy this weekend, but I can hardly wait to get back behind the wheel of my EpiPen/ CanTorque Chevrolet and try to score maximum points and get back into the thick of the NASCAR Canada Team Owners Championship hunt," said Tagliani, who missed the previous NCATS race in Nova Scotia. "Following David Michaud's mechanical problems with the Chevrolet at Riverside Speedway, Tagliani Autosport slipped from first to third in the Owners standing, and since there are only two races left, we need to finish at the top this weekend.
"In the CTCC twin bill at the GP3R, I had a great time with the Grand Touring Class Fast Wheels Ford Mustang winning the pole twice and leading both races in front of the faster Super Grand Touring cars before encountering problems with the car and depriving us of any hopes of victory. My goal this weekend is to win both CTCC races. Of course, winning the two NASCAR races is also a prime target."
Tagliani to run his second NASCAR Truck Series Race
Tagliani is back this weekend for his second ride in the No. 29 Brad Keselowski Racing Cooper Standard Ford F-150 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Tag made his series debut last year at the CTMP winning the pole with a series record lap time of 1 minute 20.558 seconds around the 3.957-kilometre road course, a remarkable 0.433 seconds better than his closest opponent. Canadian cable subscribers of FOXSR, formally known as SPEED TV, can watch the race live on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Pre-race show starts at 1:00 p.m.
"Of course, I can hardly wait to drive Keselowski Racing Ford F-150 once again and compete against the top guns of the Truck Series. Last year, we set a series track record in qualifying, but in the early part of the race, the throttle pedal kept sticking and I had to pull it back with my right foot to ease the speed. It was an unfortunate problem because the truck was really quick. I was very happy when Keselowski Racing announced I would back this year, and I hope to perform well because I would like to get more rides in the future," he concluded.
This weekend, all vehicles driven by Tag will display a Justin Wilson logo to commemorate the life of his former racing teammate who was tragically killed last weekend at the Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania.
Very busy schedule
On Friday afternoon, Tagliani will qualify his Fast Wheels Mustang at 4:00 p.m. following an earlier CTCC practice session.
Saturday will be his busiest day with no less than seven outings. Prior to lunchtime, he will switch back in forth from his Ford truck to his Chevrolet four times between 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a series of practice sessions. Following the CTCC first race of the weekend at 3:50 p.m., Tagliani will qualify his NASCAR Canada Chevrolet at 5:05 p.m. and then his Ford truck at 5:45 p.m.
Come Sunday, Tagliani will start his day at 8:45 a.m. in the second CTCC race of the weekend, and at 10:05 a.m., switch from the Mustang to his Chevrolet to race in the NCATS Pinty's present the Clarington 200 51-lap race. Following lunch, Tagliani will climb aboard his Ford F-150 truck to compete in the NASCAR Truck Series Chevrolet Silverado 250, a 64-lap race that can be viewed live on the FOXSR network at 1:30 p.m.
