Fraserville, Ontario – The defending champion, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, was on-track yesterday, on the Kawartha Speedway near Fraserville, Ontario to compete in the final event of the NASCAR Canadian Tire season. Qualified in fifth place, the driver of the #47 Dodge WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare made his way to third place and fought with determination among the leaders throughout the whole race in order to remain ahead of the pack. This fourth place allows him to end up in fourth in the final championship standings.
The day was not an easy one for WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team. “We had issues with our first set of tires in the morning”, mentions Louis-Philippe Dumoulin. “We finished the practices in thirteen place, a result that was very far from our expectations. However, Mario Gosselin, crew chief, and the guys have worked really hard to improve our settings before the qualifying session.” These adjustments have paid off, as Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was able to position his car on the inside of the third line of the starting grid. In fifth place, he completed a quick lap within 1 minute and 15.817 seconds, 169 milliseconds behind the pole sitter.
The start of the race was delayed by over two hours due to severe rain that occurred immediately after qualifying.
Right from the beginning of the 250-lap event, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin has strategically and skillfully kept up the pace dictated by the leader. “The WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare car was efficient in the long runs, explains Louis-Philippe. “About twenty laps were necessary before we could really start attacking. I managed to make up some ground on the leaders, and by the end of the race, I closed the gap that separated me from DJ Kennington. A few more laps and I could’ve fought for third place.”
Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was hoping for another end to the final event. However, looking back at the actual events of the races, he concludes on a positive note. “Overall, I’m happy with my season, but we certainly would’ve liked to end up on the podium and end the season with a top 3 in the championship.” Louis-Philippe Dumoulin demonstrated consistency in his results throughout the season. The WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare team has earned two podiums, and finished among the top 5 six times in eleven occasions. The Trois-Rivières native driver racked up 420 points throughout the year and came very close to attaining his goal, as he ends the season only eight points behind third place. “We’ll analyze our season, and take note of any corrections that need to be made. I can assure that we’ll come back stronger next year,” concludes Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.
The end of the season concludes on a positive note for Dumoulin Competition.
