DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team returned to action for race number two of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway near Innisfil, Ontario. With a car that was challenging to drive DJ Kennington used all his skills to bring home a sixth place result.

During the two practice sessions Kennington was pleased with the performance of the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “The car felt good early in the day and we were looking forward to a solid night,” said the driver.

Kennington would qualify the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge eighth but felt that he had a race car that he’d be able to move forward in the field with. His thoughts quickly changed as the 300-lap race began. “Right away I knew the car was not where we needed it to be” stated Kennington.

The team took advantage of an early caution period and brought Kennington to pit lane for fuel and a handling adjustment. “The guys tried to tighten the car up but it still wasn’t enough,” he said.

As the race wore on Kennington continued to use his racing skill to keep the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge as competitive as possible. The team made further adjustments during later pit stops for fuel and fresh tires.

In the late stages of the race Kennington realized he had another problem to deal with, the heat inside the car was burning his right heel. “Driving with a hot foot didn’t make our night any easier” joked Kennington.

Despite all the obstacles Kennington powered the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge up two places from the start of the race and came home with a sixth place result. “It’s disappointing from what we expected, but it does give us a decent points night and we’ll dig in to be better next week,” stated Kennington.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team returns to action this Friday night, June 24th at the Autodrome Chaudière.
