Round number three of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series was a difficult one for DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team. After turning some solid laps during practice Kennington would wind up starting the race from the tenth position and wind up there at the end of the night.
The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge showed plenty of speed with Kennington at the wheel early in the day during he afternoon practice session but the driver was a little surprised at their tenth starting spot. “The competition is jus so close, a tenth of a second makes a huge difference” said Kennington.
Following some initial jostling in the field at the start of the 300-lap race Kennington began gaining positions in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge. “It’s easy to be impatient on a tight track like this but I just tried to take what was available,” he explained.
When the caution flag waved for the first time during the race Kennington was flirting with the top five and he continued to keep the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge toward the front of the field as the race reached the scheduled midway break. “I just continued to look for spots to move up,” he stated.
With fuel and fresh tires Kennington again set out to improve his position in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge as the race resumed. Working hard for a solid top five result it appeared that his efforts would be rewarded until late in the race when contact with another competitor turned Kennington around. “That was tough,” he stated. “It put us back in the pack and we didn’t have much time to recover”.
In the closing laps Kennigton pushed as hard as he could and crossed the finish line with a tenth place result. “It’s too bad, we had a car that could have finished in the top five for sure,” said the driver.
“I have to thank the whole team for their efforts, we had a busy week with a great event doing an event for Breakfast Television in Toronto and getting ready for this race kept them busy, great job by all the guys”.
DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team return to action July 3rd at Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec.
