Montréal, Quebec – Patrick Carpentier will take part in the Combat Wounded Coalition 400, this Sunday, July 24 at the wheel of the No. 32 Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear held on to the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This event will mark the retired driver second Sprint Cup start of the season.
Patrick Carpentier grew up racing several kinds of race cars, dreaming of his turn to race in the most prestigious levels of racing. A dream that he certainly realized through the years racing multiple series like IndyCar, NASCAR Xfinity and NASCAR Sprint Cup. Mostly recognized for its performances in Champ Car World Series and IndyCar Series with 5 wins and 24 podiums, the retired race car driver is thrilled to have been given the great opportunity to race at Brickyard 400.
Patrick had to say, “The Brickyard is a very magical place and to get a chance to drive it is always amazing. I had the opportunity to race it in an Indycar in 2005 and again in a Sprint Cup car in 2008, both were very special to me.”
During his full-time Sprint Cup season in 2008, Patrick raced the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and finished 18th. The 44-year-old Quebec native had to say, “This weekend I come in with some laps under my belt. It was important for me to get on the road course laps before driving an oval to get a feel for how much these cars have changed. Although I always preferred ovals to road courses, most likely due to my former years as a short-track speed skater.”
The part-time driver of the No. 32 Can-Am Ford Fusion for Go Fas Racing (GFR) lived an intense race at Sonoma last June when its helmet was disconnected from the cool box preventing him from breathing normally. Patrick added, “For this weekend I was able to better prepare myself after the incident in Sonoma with my helmets AC inlet, so hopefully it doesn’t feel like it’s 160 degrees inside the car. I also trained with lots of cycling to make sure I’m ready. My goal is to do the best I can all weekend and focus on the task at hand in order to get as good a result as we can. If I can cheer up the team with the opportunity that Can-Am is offering us, that would make me happy.”
