Indianapolis, Indiana – Patrick Carpentier finishes in 34th place at The Combat Wounded Coalition 400, this Sunday, July 24 behind the wheel of the Ford No. 32 Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear held on the historic brickyard oval’s track. From Laval, Quebec, Carpentier was coming out of retirement driving for his second and last race of the season.
Patrick Carpentier driver of the No. 32 Can-Am Ford Fusion SS for Go Fas Racing (GFR), raced his way through an up-and-down day that started with a car too tight, but the chemistry that was quickly established from Sonoma helped the team to make great adjustments. Coming to mid-race, the 44-year-old driver completed pretty good laps. As the heat went up to 132 Fahrenheit, Patrick said over the radio: “It feels like an oven in here” when a red flag caused a full-course neutralization. At this moment, Patrick affirmed that he felt his feet burning. Approaching the end of the race, fans could feel the emotional atmosphere. With Jeff Gordon back on the track and Tony Stewarts’ last brickyard race, Patrick could not have chosen a better race to be back in the car.
“We had issues with the car understeering in turns but we were able to make wedge adjustment that helped us to reach good laps’ time. As the rhythm of the race was changing and people were pushing harder, we stayed at the back trying to avoid all damages. We ended up in 34th in one piece with 7 points for the team which is satisfying for us” explained Patrick Carpentier.
Great teamwork with Curtis Aldridge, GFR’s spotter, facilitated the efforts of the Can-Am driver to methodically raced his way through the field escaping several wrecks that brought the race in over time. Proudly representing Can-Am’s colors, Patrick Carpentier left the track with a 34th position that gave him a whole new taste of NASCAR. “I am glad that Can-Am, Kappa and Cyclops Gear had trust in me and offered me this opportunity. I am leaving this experience with a great reminder of how hard it is to be a professional NASCAR driver. I also feel blessed that I got respect salutation from many drivers” said the driver who feels like this was a great way to really end his NASCAR driver career.
The 170-lap race saw ten cautions and five lead changes and a beautiful emotional end with Stewart and Gordon going on one last lap together.
