Edson, Alberta - Team NPP will be flying the Canadian flag at two American tracks this weekend at two separate race events.
Lane Zerbin pilots the Northern Provincial Pipelines/Alien Chassis #81 Modified at Grays Harbor Raceway on Friday and Saturday night (July 29th & 30th). The track in Elma, Washington hosts the 17th annual Shipwreck Beads Modified Nationals.
Just 35 minutes away at South Sound Speedway, Darrell Midgley, the current point leader of the NPP Late Model Series, will be behind the wheel of the Northern Provincial Pipelines/Alien Chassis #81 Super Late Model.
The Rochester, Washington facility is hosting their 21st annual Miller 200 event Saturday night. Both drivers are looking to put in good performances south of the border. "We'd love to lock ourselves into Saturday night's show with a couple good heat finishes Friday night," says Lane Zerbin, "the top sixteen cars in points from night number one are locked into Saturday nights 'A' Main."
More than 60 IMCA Modified teams are expected for this weekend's Modified Nationals. The Victoria, British Columbia driver made his IMCA Modified debut at Grays Harbor Raceway last year and finished 12th. At 2015 Modified Nationals, Zerbin finished an impressive 15th on Championship night. "I've been around dirt Modifieds for the last ten years or so," adds the former go-kart racer, "I've been watching and learning during this time." Zerbin was an extremely fast learner as he won his first Modified Feature earlier this month (July 3rd) at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon. "I surprised myself by winning this early.
Hopefully it continues to go up from here." With Zerbin competing on the dirt for two-nights, Darrell Midgley will be on the pavement for two-nights as well. The veteran racer from Sidney, British Columbia is taking this weekend's event at South Sound Speedway in stride. "There is always local talent wherever you go and they are always good on their home track. I've been doing this for awhile so I treat every race (in the States) the same now."
In his last American appearance at a pavement Late Model event (April 16, 2016) Midgley finished 6th at All American Speedway in Roseville, California. "It's always difficult when you are travelling into someone else's backyard."
Midgley competed at South Sound Speedway last year but his results were less than impressive. "We broke. Nothing really more happened. So we hope to do better this time."
Midgley and team will also be keeping an eye on the other Team NPP car this weekend. "Since we race here on Saturday night, the intention right now is to travel up to Elma Friday and watch Lane race. We have a private test session (at South Sound Speedway) booked on Thursday."
