Milgrove, Ontario – The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds returned to competition with a pair of 20-lap features on Saturday night at Flamboro Speedway. Brian Atkinson and Steve Trendell each parked in victory lane. It was the first points event in nearly a month after rainouts at Flamboro and Sauble earlier in the month altered the schedule.
Amanda Stoner’s No.80 led the field to the green flag for the first race alongside John Karley’s No.19. It was a frantic start to the event as Stoner was loose on the opening turns allowing Karley to grad the lead. Seventh starting Darren Dryden made it three-wide on the apron of the track and brought Steve Trendell with him.
Brian Atkinson claimed the lead shortly after the early flurry of activity with points leader Jason Keen using the outside lane to take the runner-up slot. Trendell moved to third. Following an extended yellow flag for a medical emergency in the pit area, Atkinson cleared Keen for the lead on the restart. The top-three ran nose-to-tail with TJ Marshall’s No.15 joining the mix late in the race. At the checkered, it was Atkinson who claimed his third win of the season over Keen and Trendell with Marshall and Ian McIntyre completing the top-five.
The final feature saw Stoner on the pole again this time with McIntyre lining up outside the front row. McIntyre led the opening laps with Trendell quickly riding to the second spot. McIntyre got loose at the exit of turn two and Trendell pounced at the opportunity to take the lead on lap three.
Trendell continued to pace the field while Atkinson raced in to second ahead of Jason Keen. The field was restacked for a restart on lap 15 that followed a Ron Easton spin in turn one. Trendell maintained his lead on the return to green while Keen took over second in the bottom lane. From there, Trendell never slowed his pace and drove to his sixth win of the season.
The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds return to Flamboro on Saturday, September 3 and will host their annual Fan Appreciation Corn Roast after the races. Additional event details are available via www.flamborospeedway.ca.
