Ayr teen ready for Canada’s famed CTMP course
Ayr, Ontario – Adam Martin is excited for his Canadian Tire Motorsport Park debut this weekend, and the Ayr teen has reason for enthusiasm. The track formerly called Mosport is Martin’s biggest challenge to date, and the Can-Am 200 Sunday is next on his schedule.
“The road course races have been a fun challenge,” said Martin. “We’ve had a plan for every race we ran in the Johnsonville Sausage Ford, and that’s what we will do this week. The plan is to improve every time on the track, and we have achieved that all year.”
The Can-Am 200 is part of the Chevrolet Silverado 250 weekend where NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series highlights the schedule along with the NASCAR Pinty’s Series – Canada’s only national stock car racing tour.
“This is our third road race of the year,” said Martin. “We raced in Mirabel, Quebec, and then on the streets of Toronto as part of the Honda Indy weekend. The goal is to complete the race and stay on the lead lap.”
Martin scored a pair of top-10 finishes on oval tracks this year with a best result of fourth place at Sunset Speedway early in the summer. The road courses have proven more difficult for the young racer.
“The NASCAR Pinty’s Series has some of the best road racers in North America,” said Martin. “I get better with every lap, but it’s a steep learning curve. The team gives me great equipment.”
Martin races out of the Micks Motorsports stable in a car owned by series veteran team owner Susan Micks. He hopes to compete for Josten Rookie of the Year honours in 2017. His progression this year is exactly what the team wanted.
Martin finished fourth in his series debut in Sunset, and he followed up on the pair of road courses finishing every lap but one. His last outing was on Antigonish, Nova Scotia’s lightning fast Riverside International Speedway where he finished sixth.
“The results have been positive,” said Martin. “But the main goal is to continue improving. It would be great to score my first top-10 finish on a road course this weekend.”
Martin is supported by Johnsonville Sausage, Olivier’s Chocolates and Candies, Reser’s Fine Foods, Secure Drive, STIHL Canada, Little Potato Company and Legacy Auto Leasing as sponsors. -
