Since last season finished, OSCAAR has been preparing for the upcoming 2017 season, set to put on another stellar season of racing after last year’s excitement.
Set for their 27th season of competition, OSCAAR officials have worked cooperatively with the promoters across Ontario to put together a schedule that will pack in excitement,that their dedicated race fans have come to expect
The schedule, consisting of 16 weeks of racing, will see each of OSCAAR’s five divisions do battle in front of the fans – the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models, the OSCAAR Modifieds, OSCAAR Pro Midgets, OSCAAR Midgets, and the new OSCAAR Hot Rods.
The 2016 race season saw 25 different drivers celebrate feature wins over the course of the season. With the release of the new schedule you can be assured that teams are home circling the dates of their favorite events.
The 2017 season will kick off at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, as part of their Victoria Day special weekend, with both the OSCAAR Modifieds and Hot Rods in attendance on May 21. Both divisions will time trial before the modifieds run an extended-distance feature of 50 laps and the hot rods run 30 laps.
The following weekend will see both the Modifieds and Hot Rods back in action at Flamboro Speedway on May 27, joined by the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models for their season opener. Meanwhile, the Midgets and Pro Midgets will have their season opener the same weekend at Peterborough Speedway.
The season starts off fast-paced, as three of the divisions – Outlaw Super Late Models, Modifieds, and Hot Rods – will head to Kawartha Speedway on June 2 for the Bruce Gowland Memorial. It’ll mark the first event at the Fraserville, Ontario oval since 2014.
Following three back-to-back weeks of racing, there will be a small break for teams before entering into the summer stretch. The Midgets and Pro Midgets will make their first appearance of the season at Grand Bend Speedway on June 17, before joining the other three divisions at Flamboro on June 24 to round out the month.
OSCAAR will celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday the only way they know how on July 1 by heading to the beach. Four of the five divisions – Outlaw Super Late Models, Modifieds, Midgets and Pro Midgets – will make the trip to Sauble Speedway.
Meanwhile, the Hot Rods will wait till mid-month to return to the track but will do so in a big way as they’ll make their first dirt appearance at Brighton Speedway on July 15. Throughout OSCAAR’s history, this marks the first time they have hosted an event on dirt, and will do so in a special way by helping Brighton Speedway celebrate their 50th anniversary being a part of their nostalgia night.
The Hot Rods will then reunite with the Outlaw Super Late Models and Modifieds a week later for the series’ second trip of the season to Kawartha Speedway on July 21. The season then caps off with all five divisions at Flamboro Speedway on July 29 for the Biederman Memorial.
The month of August will see the Outlaw Super Late Models and Modifieds make their first appearance of the season at Peterborough Speedway on August 5, joined by the Midgets and Pro Midgets. The month of August will be jam-packed for the Midgets and Pro Midgets, as they will be back in action a week later at Grand Bend Speedway on August 12.
The action-packed month of August continues a week later on August 19 with the Outlaw Super Late Models, Modifieds, Midgets and Pro Midgets in action at Sauble Speedway. The Pro Midgets will then round out the month of August at Flamboro on the 26th.
The action continues into in September, with the Midgets and Pro Midgets making their third appearance of the season at Grand Bend Speedway on September 9.
The month of September will finish off four of the five divisions taking part in Frostoberfest at Flamboro Speedway. The Modifieds will qualify on September 30, while the Hot Rods, Midgets, and Pro Midgets will qualify and run their features. The Modifieds will then return to Flamboro the next day, September 31, to run a special extended-distance 50 lap feature.
The season will cap off with the Autumn Colours Classic at Peterborough Speedway, as it has traditionally in the past. The modifieds will kick off the party by running their first round of qualifying heats on Friday, October 6. The next day, the Modifieds will run their second heat of heats, as well the Outlaw Super Late Models being on track to run both sets of their heats. The Midgets and Pro Midgets will cap off the second day of Autumn Colours on October 7 with their heats and feature. The weekend will then finish off on October 8 with a 50-lap feature for the Modifieds and a 50-lap feature for the Outlaw Super Late Models.
The busy 2017 schedule ensures fans across the entire province will have a chance to experience the high-action packed racing that OSCAAR has been known for through the past 26 years to become Ontario’s premier short track racing series.
