Friday Night Excitement at Ohsweken Starts May 19
Caistor Centre, Ontario – Team Turner Racing completed a successful Test and Tune session at Ohsweken Speedway last Friday night and the team is now preparing for opening night at the Six Nations track this Friday night.
The open test session at the big 3/8-mile oval last Friday night gave the Turner clan their first chance on the speedway since the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals last September.
“It really helps,” Jamie Turner, driver of the Charlie Bee Honey No.11, said of the test night. “I don’t know about the other guys, but I get rusty. We raced a couple of weeks ago at Merrittville, but it was still nice to come out here and do some laps.”
While all three Team Turner Racing drivers are veterans in Ohsweken’s 360 Sprint Car division, the extra track time is always beneficial, said Cory Turner, driver of the KT Tobacco/Silo Wireless No.97.
“Seat time’s always good,” Cory said. “I would test every day of the week if I had the resources and time. I still have a thousand things I want to try on the car. I tried a couple of them tonight and I think we found something that we can really relate to our car going forward.”
The night also provided an opportunity to work out any final kinks before the points chase begins on May 19. One final shake down of the car can go a long way towards a successful opening night, said Ryan Turner, who pilots the Ace’s Bar & Grill No.91.
“We were really happy with tonight,” Ryan said. “We finally had the car working in full fashion. We had engine problems earlier in the year and we finally got those put aside. The car was quick all night. I tried a couple of different things and I’m happy with what we had.”
Ohsweken is widely regarded as one of the premier dirt track facilities in the Northeast. Racing at such a facility makes it easy for the Turner team to get excited for the return to their home track this week.
“When we have a home track like Ohsweken, it’s always good to get back,” Ryan said. “Hopefully we have three fast cars and we put ourselves on the podium.”
“This place is so fun to race at,” echoed Jamie. “It’s such a great facility and the track is in such great shape. It’s a real racing track. It has a high side; it has a low side and even a middle. We always look forward to coming here.”
Each Team Turner Racing driver has at least one race under their belt entering opening night, which has helped the team get in sync for Ohsweken’s championship opener. All three drivers believe they have what it takes to contend for a title this season.
“I would definitely like to be in the top-five,” Ryan said of his year-end points goal.” As a team, we’ve definitely gotten better and better with more knowledge. We have an awesome bunch of guys.”
“I’m lucky I have a real good crew behind me and a great pile of sponsors,” Jamie said. “With all their help, we’re looking forward to a real good year.”
Race time for the 22nd Season Opener at Ohsweken Speedway is 7:30pm on Friday, May 19. For Team Turner Racing’s full schedule of events, visit www.teamturnerracing.ca.
