Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team were back in action as the NASCAR Pinty’s Series began it’s annual western swing on Wednesday evening at Wyant Group Raceway in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Unique was that for the first time the series would run two full points paying races on the same day with twin 100 lap events.
During the lone afternoon practice session Ranger’s #27 Mopar Parts Dodge wasn’t the fastest car on track but Ranger was confident it would race well. “The car was very consistent and I think we’ll be good in the race,” he stated following practice.
Ranger would qualify the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge 7th for the first 100-lap feature event but found trouble early. Right from the beginning the car was a handful for Ranger and he began slipping back in the field. “The car was very loose,” he said afterwards. “I couldn’t put the power down,” he explained.
At the conclusion of the first race Ranger would be classified 10th and the team immediately went to work making adjustments for the second race. Starting position was determined the best lap speeds in the first race so the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge would line up 11th for the second half of the double dip.
Once again however handling was an issue for the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge. Ranger would use the first caution period to make a pit stop for further adjustments, which did improve the car somewhat.
As the race moved on Ranger used all of his skills to keep the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge close to the front and would come home with a 7th place result. “It’s disappointing for sure,” said the driver. “We were on the pole for this race last year but there were some changes to the track and we struggled all day. But I know the Mopar team will regroup in time for the next race in Edmonton” he added.
Andrew Ranger and the #27 Mopar Parts Dodge team now head to Edmonton International Raceway for the next event this Saturday July 29th.
